Lou Donaldson - Light-Foot (1959/2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Lou Donaldson
Title: Light-Foot
Genre: Jazz, Hard Bop, Cool Jazz
Label: © Blue Note Records
Release Date: 1959/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 40:20
Recorded: December 14, 1958, Rudy Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, NJ.

Jazz saxophonist Lou Donaldon's 1959 Blue Note release. Light-Foot is his seventh studio album recording as a leader, the album features his Quintet comprised of Herman Foster, Peck Morrison, Jimmy Wormsworth and Ray Barretto. The record features some original compositions by Donaldson along with titles by Ray Charles, Herman Foster and other jazz composers.

In many ways, Blues Walk marked the culmination of Lou Donaldson's prime period as a hard-driving, straight-ahead bop saxophonist. Until that point, he had been turning out intense, furious bop workouts -- afterward, as its successor Light Foot shows, he began to slow down a bit. With Light Foot, Donaldson still was pretty firmly grounded in bop, but the tempos began to slow down, and his blues influence came to the forefront; furthermore, the bop tracks are hard bop, not straight bop, which tended to dominate his previous recordings. That diversity makes Light Foot an interesting listen, but the record suffers from slightly uneven material and performances. His quintet -- featuring pianist Herman Foster, bassist Peck Morrison, drummer Jimmy Wormsworth, and conga player Ray Barretto -- is usually up to the task at hand, but they tend to play conventionally. And, ultimately, that's what Light Foot is -- an entertaining but conventional release from an alto saxophonist capable of greatness. --Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Lamont Dozier - Out Here On My Own (1973/2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Lamont Dozier
Title: Out Here On My Own
Genre: R&B, Pop, Soul
Label: © ABC Records / Geffen Records
Release Date: 1973/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:36:54
Recorded, mixed and mastered at ABC Recording Studios, Inc. Los Angeles, California.

Some strong '70s R&B from the great songwriter Lamont Dozier. It was one of the better combinations of socio-political commentary and urgent soul vocals done in the period. The title cut, as well as the single "Fish Ain't Bitin" and "Out Here On My Own," were sizable hits.

A wonderful collection of tunes, Lamont’s debut album for ABC, a classic of 70s soul! The album has a quality that’s impossible to describe accurately – kind of a post-Motown full-on approach to soul that mixes strings, piano, and that wall of sound groove that was one of Dozier’s biggest contributions to the Motor City. The songwriting is impeccable – and nearly every track is an instant classic – with a depth of lyricism and vocal expression you’d be hard pressed to find from any of Dozier’s contemporaries.

Lamont Dozier - Black Bach (1974/2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Lamont Dozier
Title: Black Bach
Genre: R&B, Pop, Soul
Label: © ABC Records / Geffen Records
Release Date: 1974/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:41:07
Recorded, mixed and mastered at ABC Recording Studios, Inc. Los Angeles, California.

American singer-songwriter Lamont Dozier's mid-70s release, Black Bach, is his soulful interpretation of songs based upon baroque stylings. The groove is undeniable, and mixed with strings it brings the record to a new level never before demonstrated by Dozier.

A well-sung but uneven album from legendary songwriter Lamont Dozier. Dozier didn't get his momentum going as a solo act until the next album. This was his introductory vehicle, and it served to let him work out the kinks. Everything except the lyrics was first-rate; his vocals, the production, and the arrangements worked, and Dozier sounded convincing on the uptempo tunes and compelling on the ballads.

All of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s studio albums, now in hi-res and together in the complete set. Available separately also.

At a time when rock was evolving away from the forces that had made the music possible in the first place, Creedence Clearwater Revival brought things back to their roots with their concise synthesis of rockabilly, swamp pop, R&B, and country. Though the music of CCR was very much a group effort in their tight, punchy arrangements, their vision was very much singer, songwriter, guitarist, and leader John Fogerty’s. Fogerty’s classic compositions for Creedence both evoked enduring images of Americana and reflected burning social issues of the day. The band’s genius was their ability to accomplish this with the economic, primal power of a classic rockabilly ensemble.

Pink Floyd-The Endless River (2014) BluRay 1080p DTS-HD MA 5.1 AVC REMUX-FraMeSToR

In early 1993, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright set up their equipment in their own Britannia Row Studios in Islington and created more than hundred pieces of music by jamming together, interacting with each other’s performances and recording the results. In 2014 David Gilmour and Nick Mason re-entered the studio and, starting with unreleased keyboard performances by Richard Wright, who sadly died in 2008, added further instrumentation to the tracks, as well as creating new material. The result is The Endless River, including 60% of recordings other than the 1993 sessions, but based upon them. The title is a further link, ‘… the endless river…’ being part of the closing phrases of High Hopes, the final song of the previous Pink Floyd album. The Endless River represents a return to the creative principles that informed the writing process that produced Pink Floyd classics like Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Animals.

Stylistically, The Endless River includes all of the musical elements that characterize Pink Floyd: mellifluous keyboards, jazz-tinged drums, musique concrete, ethereal vocals, and distinctive, emotional lead guitar. As well as Pink Floyd’s trademark backing vocals, there is one vocal track, with lyrics by author Polly Samson, who also contributed to The Division Bell.
David Gilmour describes the record as follows: “The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions. We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album. Over the last year we’ve added new parts, re-recorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire”.

Coldplay Ghost Stories Live 2014 1080i Blu-ray AVC DTS-HD MA 5.1-FKKHD

Filmed by Grammy-nominated director Paul Dugdale, the Ghost Stories Live 2014 film documents the band’s unique performance of the Ghost Stories album to a small handful of fans in March 2014, two months prior to the album’s release. Shot in a custom-built amphitheatre at Sony Studios, Los Angeles, the ground-breaking production sets the band’s performance against stunning 360-degree and overhead imagery.
Parts of the performance were first broadcast in May 2014 as a Coldplay TV Special by major broadcasters around the world, including NBC in the US and Sky Arts in the UK (where the film has already been nominated for Best Live Coverage at this year’s UK Music Video Awards). But Ghost Stories Live 2014 is the first time that the performance has been sequenced as originally conceived: a visual representation of the Ghost Stories album.
