• Randy Bachman returned to where it all started, Winnipeg, and recorded a show at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre where he chronologically played and told the origins of his most famous songs that he created with both the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive.
• What happens next is what they call in show biz ‘the magic.’ In fact, this is the how a story-teller’s evening should be done. Randy is personable and comes off as a musical historian as he walks the crowd through his song writing history. We are talking classic tunes that include Guess Who favorites such as “These Eyes,” “No Sugar Tonight,” “No Time” and “American Woman” to the BTO hits like “Let It Ride,” “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and “Takin’ Care of Business.”
• Watching and listening to Bachman describe his life in rock and roll and how these songs -some created live on stage- came to be is mesmerizing. One feels like he is bellied up to the bar listening to a great storyteller. It is fascinating, yet comfortable… amazing, yet believable.

Subtitled Játékok – Games and Transcriptions for piano solo and four hands, this is a film, directed by Isabelle Soulard, of a Kurtág concert at Paris’s Cité de la Musique. The duo performances of Márta and György Kurtág are distinguished by tough new music precision, underpinned by a quality of affection (“What playing!” raved the New Yorker of a Játékok concert. “Notes were placed with surgical care; inner voices gleamed in crystalline patterns; elusive emotional states were painted with quick, light strokes.”) Játékok has become a compendium of tiny homages, jewelled miniatures dedicated to composers from Scarlatti to Stravinsky and tributes to colleagues and influences. In this special case the whole programme is dedicated to the memory of the Kurtágs’ good friend, musicologist Haydée Charbagi (1979-2008). Interspersed amongst the Játékok pieces are György Kurtág’s Bach transcriptions. The whole programme closes with a beautiful version of Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit.

Autumn 2012 marks the release of Mission, a sensational new album from the world’s best-selling classical artist, Cecilia Bartoli, and a project with international politics, religious conflict, diplomatic secrecy, spying and sensational music at its heart. The album showcases the music of a little-known Italian composer and will include solo arias of various moods and styles, several duets, solo numbers with chorus – all sung in Italian – and instrumental interludes that create an organic transition from one piece to the next and an arc that reaches from the beginning to the end of the album. Such was the appeal of the project that longtime Bartoli admirer and global best-selling author Donna Leon decided to write a mystery novel – Jewels of Paradise – to accompany Cecilia’s album, which uses the mystery surrounding the composer’s story as the centre of its plot. Jewels of Paradise will be released simultaneously with Cecilia Bartoli’s album in English (UK and USA), German, French, Dutch, Spanish and Catalan. Among the distinguished names appearing on Mission is star French counter-tenor Philippe Jaroussky who features in a first-time collaboration with Cecilia on a selection of duets, alongside the Coro della Radiotelevisione Svizzera, the period orchestra I Barocchisti from Lugano, Switzerland, and conductor Diego Fasolis. A cinematographic vision of the album directed by Olivier Simonnet and filmed in the historic Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors) and in the gardens of the Chateau de Versailles.

• In September 2013 Kscope released Dethroned & Uncrowned, a reworking of the band’s 2012 epic Dead End Kings (originally released on Kscope’s sister label Peaceville). Dethroned & Uncrowned allowed Katatonia the opportunity to explore a more progressive sound, creating new moods and textures while still staying truthful to the core of the original songs.
• Katatonia took Dethroned & Uncrowned on the road in Europe for the first time in May 2014 under the moniker ‘Unplugged & Reworked’. They presented an intimate acoustic evening, performing tracks from the album alongside atmospheric classics from their entire career, stripped and reworked. Each venue, on the tour, was carefully chosen for its unique atmosphere. They were joined on guitar & vocals by The Pineapple Thief frontman and songwriter Bruce Soord.
• Sanctitude is a concert film filmed and recorded in the stunning candle-lit setting of London’s Union Chapel. The 80 minute set features 17 songs across the albums The Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness, Brave Murder Day, Last Fair Deal Gone Down and of course, Dead End Kings / Dethroned & Uncrowned, including fan favourite ‘Teargas’. The show closes with the sublime ‘The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here’ and a special guest appearance by Norwegian vocalist Silje Wergeland of Dutch legends The Gathering.
• Katatonia’s Anders Nyström comments on the release “As a band we set out on uncharted waters but while apprehensive about the journey ahead our intentions couldn’t have been more genuine to undertake this beautiful experience. Sailing this project into harbour turned out to be bliss and has ultimately enriched all the members of Katatonia.”
• All audio on Sanctitude has been mixed & mastered by Bruce Soord. With artwork once more supplied by long-time visual collaborator Travis Smith.
