13 is the 19th studio album by British rock band Black Sabbath. The album was released on 10 June 2013 in Europe and 11 June 2013 in North America, via Vertigo Records and Republic Records in the US, and via Vertigo Records worldwide. It is the first studio album released by Black Sabbath since Forbidden (1995), and their first studio recording with original singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler since the live album Reunion (1998), which contained two new studio tracks. It is also the first studio album with Osbourne since Never Say Die! (1978), and with Butler since Cross Purposes (1994). This is also the first Black Sabbath studio album since Never Say Die! not to feature longtime keyboardist Geoff Nicholls, and the first since The Eternal Idol (1987) on Vertigo (outside the US and Canada).
Black Sabbath’s original line-up first began work on a new studio album in 2001 with producer Rick Rubin. The album’s development was delayed because Osbourne was in the middle of finishing his eighth solo album Down to Earth, and the rest of the band members eventually went on to pursue other projects, including GZR and Heaven & Hell. When Black Sabbath announced the end of their hiatus on 11 November 2011, the band announced that they would restart work on a new album with Rubin. In addition to original members Osbourne, Butler and guitarist Tony Iommi, they were joined at the recording sessions by drummer Brad Wilk, of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, following original drummer Bill Ward’s decision to not participate in the reunion, due to a “contractual dispute”.

Decca recorded Turandot with by no means obvious casting Joan Sutherland as the icy Princess and Zubin Mehta on the podium. It became the Turandot of modern times and, of course, gave us the Nessun dorma that became Pavarotti s signature aria during the World Cup 1990 festivities. With Montserrat Caballé as a heart-melting Liù, this is a recording that has not been equalled in the decades since.
The glory years of the 1980s and 90s when Pavarotti had become a true superstar lay ahead, but this recording contains some infinitely treasurable singing Pavarotti was a celebrity who d earned his fame, and learned his craft slowly and completely. He was indeed grandissimo in every way.

Reckless is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock recording artist Bryan Adams. The album was co-produced by Adams and Bob Clearmountain, and it was one of Adams’ most successful solo albums. Released on 5 November 1984 through A&M Records, the album was a huge international hit, selling over 5 million units in the United States alone. It was the first Canadian album to sell more than one million units within Canada. The album peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and reached high positions in the charts worldwide. In total the album has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide.
Six singles were released from the album: “Run to You”, “Somebody”, “Heaven”, “Summer of ’69”, “One Night Love Affair”, and “It’s Only Love”. All six singles made the top 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, a feature that at the time had been accomplished previously only by Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA. The album was ranked No. 49 on Kerrang!s “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time”, and 99th Greatest Rock Album of All Time by Classic rock and was also named the #12 Greatest Canadian Album of All Time by Bob Mersereau in his book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. The album was recorded at Little Mountain Sound Studios, Vancouver, Canada. On 12 December 2009 the syndicated radio program In the Studio celebrated the 25th anniversary of the album.
In April 2014, it was announced that a 30th Anniversary edition of the album, featuring previously unreleased material, will be released on 10 November 2014 in both 4- and 2-disc editions. The Reckless 30th Anniversary Tour is also to take place in November 2014, consisting of eleven exclusive arena shows in the United Kingdom.

The Hurting would have been a daring debut for a pop-oriented band in any era, but it was an unexpected success in England in 1983, mostly by virtue of its makers’ ability to package an unpleasant subject — the psychologically wretched family histories of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith — in an attractive and sellable musical format. Not that there weren’t a few predecessors, most obviously John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band album — which was also, not coincidentally, inspired by the work of primal scream pioneer Arthur Janov. (But Lennon had the advantage of being an ex-Beatle when that meant the equivalent to having a box next to God’s in the great arena of life, where Tears for Fears were just starting out.) Decades later, “Pale Shelter,” “Ideas as Opiates,” “Memories Fade,” “Suffer the Children,” “Watch Me Bleed,” “Change,” and “Start of the Breakdown” are powerful pieces of music, beautifully executed in an almost minimalist style. “Memories Fade” offers emotional resonances reminiscent of “Working Class Hero,” while “Pale Shelter” functions on a wholly different level, an exquisite sonic painting sweeping the listener up in layers of pulsing synthesizers, acoustic guitar arpeggios, and sheets of electronic sound (and anticipating the sonic texture, if not the precise sound of their international breakthrough pop hit “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”). The work is sometimes uncomfortably personal, but musically compelling enough to bring it back across the decades.

Van Morrison – Moondance (Deluxe Edition) (1970/2013) [High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray Disc]

Genre: Pop, Rock, Soul, Irish Folk
Year of the album’s release: 1970
Year of publication: 2013

Duration: 00:39:20
Size: 5.11 GB

In the fall of 1969, Van Morrison entered the studio to record Moondance, the album that would soon become his commercial breakthrough and one of the most beloved recordings of all time. Fans will soon have the rare opportunity to experience this classic album like never before with the newly remastered and expanded version featuring 50 unreleased tracks including studio outtakes of favorites, plus multiple takes and a final mix of the unheard track “I Shall Sing.”
The Deluxe Edition includes 4 CDs/1 Blu-Ray Audio with newly remastered version of the original album, three discs of previously unreleased music from the sessions, a Blu-Ray Audio disc with high-resolution 48K 24 bit PCM stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound audio of original album (no video). The package is presented in a linen-wrapped folio Includes a booklet with liner notes from Alan Light and original engineer Elliot Scheiner.
The Deluxe Edition unearths an amazing trove of unreleased gems that take the listener right alongside Morrison and his band in studio. There are multiple, often lengthy, takes from the recording sessions of nearly every track found on the 1970 original, including “Glad Tidings,” “Brand New Day” and “Come Running.” There are also early takes of “I’ve Been Working,” a song that would appear later that year on His Band And The Street Choir. The early version included here is quite different from the official album version. The Deluxe Edition also includes a Blu-Ray audio disc with high-resolution stereo and surround mixes of the original album, mixed by original engineer Elliot Scheiner, who also oversaw the new re-mastering of the album.
One of the most significant revelations is “I Shall Sing,” a Morrison original that was completed but left off the album. There are multiple takes of the song (spread across six tracks), plus a final mix of the finished song. While no one has heard Morrison’s version, Art Garfunkel had a Top 40 hit with the song, which appeared on his 1973 solo debut.

Ying Quartet: Schumann (2014) [High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray Disc]

Title: Ying Quartet: Schumann
Released: 2014
Genre: Classical, Instrumental
Artist: Ayano Ninomiya (Violin), Janet Ying (Violin), Phillip Ying (Viola), David Ying (Cello)

Issued: United States | Sono Luminus
Duration: 1:13:43

The Ying Quartet occupies a position of unique prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. Now in its second decade as a quartet, the Quartet has established itself as an ensemble of the highest musical qualifications in its tours across the United States and abroad. Their performances regularly take place in many of the world’s most important concert halls, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. At the same time, the Quartet’s belief that concert music can also be a meaningful part of everyday life has also drawn the foursome to perform in settings as diverse as the workplace, schools, juvenile prisons, and the White House. In fact, the Ying Quartet’s constant quest to explore the creative possibilities of the string quartet has led it to an unusually diverse array of musical projects and interests. As quartet-in-residence at the Eastman School of Music, the Ying Quartet maintains full time faculty positions in the String and Chamber Music Departments.
The three string quartets were all written in just a few weeks in the summer of 1842, and his writing for strings is, for better or worse, rather pianistic. It is unfortunate that some would dispatch the significance and beauty of these works so easily. Though there are passages and textures in the quartets that are clearly influenced by keyboard technique, this is glorious music. The imagination and wit, vitality and virtuosity, subtlety and nuance, and heartfelt yearning and emotion that are displayed throughout the quartets are enough to be as satisfying as any of Schumann’s music. Each one of them is a joy to perform.
Since all of the quartets were written in just a few short weeks, it is interesting to take them (Op. 41, Nos. 1, 2 and 3) as a set and consider the similarities and differences between each of the corresponding movements. For example, all three of the first movements are primarily gentle in nature and convey a sense of unfolding, though there are dynamic and energetic moments within. None of them begin with forceful, dramatic intensity to grab an audience; instead, Schumann uses an intimate quality and a sense of drawing the listener in to define the emotional world of these quartets. Two of the three first movements also end in a wonderfully quiet and peaceful way.

Bjørn Bolstad Skjelbred: Waves & Interruptions (2013) [High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray Disc]

Title: Bjørn Bolstad Skjelbred: Waves & Interruptions
Released: 2013
Genre: Classical, Instrumental
Artist: Eirik Raude (marimba and vibraphone), Ida Bryhn (viola), Tom Ottar Andreassen (flutes), Thomas Kjekstad (guitar)

This album presents a collection of works by the Norwegian composer Bjørn Bolstad Skjelbred (b.1970), all composed between 2001 and 2013. The works have been written with melodic percussion as the central and dominating element – with various surrounding ensembles – performed by the recognized Norwegian percussionist Eirik Raude. The smaller chamber formations very suitably illustrate several of the central compositional and poetic aspects of Skjelbred’s music.

The music of Skjelbred is quiet, and just like his shy persona it is exactly this quietness that gives the music its character and originality. This is not music that leaps off the stage and authoritatively grabs the listener. It is rather music that encourages the listener to actively advance, to follow the finely chiselled processes that you will find under the surface, in sequences that in Skjelbred consciously avoid being directed towards final and unambiguous goals. One rarely finds that the composer in his works wishes to draw rigorous conclusions.

Skjelbred says himself: “I think that art is the place where the conclusions are not the most important thing, but the unanswered questions. I regard this as a logarithmic curve, a kind of parabola – where you have a steep development curve in the beginning that gradually approaches the base line but never reaches it completely. To fully understand another human being (or oneself) is thus impossible. “

In meeting Bjørn Bolstad Skjelbred’s music, he does not ask that you as a listener fasten your seatbelt, but rather loosen it carefully, rise from your seat and approach the music, slowly walking, with your mind and ears open. You will hear a source of sound that illustrates paradoxes both in nature’s imminent, quiet (!) Drama and in all the strange versions of our human social relations that basically, and finally, can be explained in a longing to understand the other person.
