Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 portrays another side of the composer, different to the one hitherto seen by the general public. No major battles are fought in this symphony; rather, it is a portrayal of a childlike vision of life and a better world in the Hereafter. Mahler’s Dutch friend and colleague, Alphons Diepenbrock, may well have provided the most fitting description of the nature of this symphony and its position within Mahler’s oeuvre: “[...] in his Symphony No. 4, he exclusively praises the sensations of the soul, severed from all earthly ties, from various angles ⎯either as childish yet unearthly merriment, or as the highest ecstasy attained by mystics in bygone years during the contemplation of the divine. However, one should not search for irony here. The work is like a beautiful dream, an indispensable link in the series of Mahler’s nine symphonies that speak sufficiently of harsh reality, and that, according to some, will one day be considered the monumental musical oeuvre of the present day.”
The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra lives up to its reputation for its brilliant Mahler performances and surpasses all expectations under the baton of conductor Marc Albrecht. And Elizabeth Watts’ performance in the final movement is surely one not to be missed. The chemistry between Watts and the orchestra is utterly pervasive. With a voice described by International Record Review as “one of the most beautiful Britain has produced in a generation”, Watts sweeps the listener off their feet with this sunny, accessible symphony from Mahler. The perfect combination of immaculate performance with impeccable PENTATONE sound quality can only result in a magical musical experience.

Lux aeterna: Visions of Bach - Beatrice Berrut (2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Recorded: 24 au 26 juillet 2014 à Flagey, Studio 4, Bruxelles

'The meditation, sobriety and modesty of Bach's music are profoundly moving. In this era when so much importance is granted to appearances, his music remains, pushes us to introspection and raises existential questions that, despite the passage of centuries, remain topical. 'I have chosen works transcribed by Busoni, Siloti or Kempff, and not that of works written for harpsichord, for their transcriptions hold out a thread between Bach's era and our modern world.
That is tangible proof of the universality and timelessness of his music: it throws a bridge between men of different centuries. 'Thierry Escaich's music also has its roots in Bach's. So it is that his latest works recall the music of the cantor of Leipzig, whilst strangely tinting it with the colours of the 21st centuries: bouquets of colourful harmonies, wild rhythms, moments of mystical ecstasy… 'Béatrice Berrut Recognized on the international scene and by her peers asa major artist, for her debut on the Aparté lable, the Swiss pianist Béatrice Berrut gives us a highly intimate vision of Johann Sebastian Bach's music.
For this, she is accompanied by a Bösendorfer piano prototype and the microphones of Nicolas Bartholomée, set up in the setting of Flagey, a multi-disciplinary arts centre in Brussels.

Liane Foly - Crooneuse (2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Liane Foly
Title: Crooneuse
Genre: Vocal Jazz, Cabaret, Swing, Chanson française
Label: © SME France
Release Date: 2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:44:18

Lavinia Meijer - Fantasies and Impromptus (2011) DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz

What prompts a composer to write fantasies and impromptus? And what do the fantasy, a free form, and the impromptu, originally an improvised poem, have in common? We know that Spohr was inspired by a young harpist who was later to become his wife. But did Fauré, as director of the Paris Conservatory, simply have no option than to write, because a compulsory solo piece was required for the harp class examinations? Was the marine officer Roussel influenced by his travels to distant shores? And were the fantasias by Saint-Saëns inspired by his great love of the Arab world? We can sometimes only guess. What we do know is that the harp has always appealed to the imagination, and that both fantasies and impromptus have inspired many composers to give free rein to their creative powers. Kreator - Gods Of Violence (2017) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/48kHz

Artist: Kreator
Title: Gods Of Violence
Genre: Rock, Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal
Label: © Nuclear Blast GmbH
Release Date: 2017
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 48kHz/24bit

Recorded: Fascination Street Studios, Sweden

There is plenty of thrash metal out there; too much in fact, as it's become the most overpopulated zone of heavy music. That said, there's thrash and then there's Kreator. Mille Petrozza (vocals, guitars, lyrics) and Jürgen "Ventor" Reil (drums) have always sought to reinvent the wheel while remaining true to their roots. Despite lineup changes -- the band currently includes Sami Yli–Sirniö on guitars and bassist Christian "Speesy" Giesler -- they've always managed to inject vitality, personality, and innovation to this beloved yet musically restricted terrain.
Five years was a long time to wait for a new Kreator album. Given the manic energy of 2016's Violence Unleashed EP, which whet fans' appetites for more of the good stuff, it seemed even longer. Produced by Jens Bogren, Gods of Violence is the album the other lineage thrash acts could never make again. It's impossible to conceive of Metallica or Slayer pulling off anything this intense or imaginative. The 11-song set belongs in the line that began with 2001's Violent Revolution and continued through 2005's Enemy of God and 2012's Phantom Antichrist. (The 2009 release Hordes of Chaos, recorded live in a single studio setting, is the only outlier.) The music here is almost a companion to Enemy of God as it balances its deadly assault with melodic death metal.
Appropriately, it commences with an anthem. "Apocalypticon," an intro complete with martial drums, a military choir, and razored guitars, with orchestral work from Fleshgod Apocalypse's Francesco Paoli and Francesco Ferrini, just stops seemingly in the middle and gives way to the brutal "World War Now," with its triple-time chug and churn. Petrozza's riffs are as meaty and physical as ever. His vocals ride just enough above the mix to discern his hostile lyrics. In the refrain, the pace increases. First single "Satan Is Real" is all swinging groove and knotty twin-guitar hell, but "Totalitarian Terror" delivers one of the catchiest and most punishing riffs the band has ever laid down. "Lion with Eagle Wings" nods at both classic Judas Priest and later NWOBHM with power metal asides and soaring choruses, all while waving the thrash flag high. Closer "Death Becomes My Light" is a gallop worthy of the entire price of entry all by itself. The way melody and guitar harmonies and riffs are threaded through these tracks is admirable. No. It's killer. All told, Gods of Violence proves well worth the wait. Kreator proves -- yet again -- that the kids still have a lot to learn when it comes to keeping thrash viable. --AllMusic Review by Thom Jurek

Paul von Klenau - Symphony No. 9 - Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Michael Schonwandt (2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Paul von Klenau (1883-1946)
Artist: Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Michael Schønwandt
Title: Klenau - Symphony No. 9
Genre: Classical
Label: © Dacapo Records, Copenhagen
Release Date: 2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: dacapo-records
Duration: 06:59:45
Recorded live at DR Koncerthuset, Copenhagen, on 20-21 March 2014

Paul von Klenau’s (1883-1946) grandiose Ninth Symphony in eight movements was composed in Copenhagen 1945 as his last major work; an extraordinary fusion of a Requiem with Latin text and a traditional symphony for orchestra, choir and four soloists. The manuscript then lay unknown for more than fifty years until it appeared in the 2001 discovery of a large collection of Klenau manuscripts in Vienna, and not until March 2014 – after a thorough editing by The Royal Library in Copenhagen – did it receive its first performance by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Schønwandt. This world premiere recording presents the full symphony; a magnificent opus of both tonal, atonal and even twelve-tone passages, very far removed from the style that predominated in the post-Nielsen Danish music of the 1940s.

14 September is the release date for Kari Bremnes' brand new album, “Og så kom resten av livet” (And then the rest of your life). This is her most personal album, and the 11 new songs show the artist at her best; poetic, personal, powerful and enchanting.
"I’m writing about having reached that stage in life where you can look back and still look ahead. And that helps you see so many different things," Kari Bremnes says about her new record.
The album was recorded in Kari's living room with her fantastic band and the producer Bengt E Hanssen.
Kari Bremnes writes poetically about the brutality and pleasures in our lives. She is a storyteller, perhaps one of Norway's best and most personal songwriters. She writes about life with honesty and a penetrating eye, about the good and the bad, with humour, solemnity and melancholy. After the release of her previous album a Norwegian newspaper wrote that “Kari Bremnes is actually almost her own genre”. After almost 20 albums, three "Spellemann" awards (Norwegian Music Awards) and a fantastic career as an artist for 25 years she has won an increasing number of devoted fans in both Norway and Germany.
