Original soundtrack to the Roger Vadim-directed movie from 1968, featuring Jane Fonda. "Bob Crewe is the man behind Dynovoice Records and the 1967 instrumental single 'Music to Watch Girls By.' The Barbarella soundtrack, originally released in 1968, was performed by The Bob Crewe Generation Orchestra & sung by The Glitterhouse and Bob Crewe. "The cult flick Barbarella has pretty much haunted Jane Fonda's career since its release in 1968. An iconic film of the cheesy-side of the Sixties, the movie contained songs and score by Bob Crewe & Charles Fox. Once you hear the opening crooning song 'Barbarella', you know what kind of an album you're in store for. There are a few songs scattered through the album, each one fitting snuggly into the style set by the drug-influenced late 60s. The score, for the most part, is like a band having a jam session. Punchy brass, electric guitars, and even orchestral interludes ('The Sex Machine) give the whole album a really eclectic (if not slightly schizophrenic) personality. I have to admit - it might be as cheesy as it comes, but it's just a lot of fun to listen to." -- Dan Goldwasser

Enlightened Rogues is the sixth studio album by American rock band the Allman Brothers Band. Produced by Tom Dowd, the album was released in February 1979 in the United States by Capricorn Records and PolyGram Records elsewhere. The Allman Brothers Band had broken up in 1976 following internal turmoil, amplified by escalating drug use. The band members splintered into different acts — among those Great Southern, Sea Level, and the Gregg Allman Band. Guitarist Dickey Betts approached his bandmates in 1978 with the prospects of a reunion. After two former members declined to return, they added new members: guitarist Dan Toler and bassist David Goldflies. Living together in Sarasota, Florida, they rehearsed and wrote the material for their next album in fall 1978.
They began recording Enlightened Rogues that December, and recording stretched into the new year. Sessions took place in Criteria Studios in Miami, Florida with producer Tom Dowd, who worked on a trio of early Allman Brothers albums. The group stayed at a home overlooking Biscayne Bay, which promoted unity within the members. The recording process was smooth and pleasant, with members showing courtesy to one another in comparison to ill feelings felt earlier. The album's title comes from a quote original guitarist Duane Allman used to describe the band: "The world is made of two great schools, enlightened rogues and religious fools."

Recording: Berlin, Funkhaus Nalepastraße, 6/2015 (Tchaikovsky), 7/2016 (Sibelius)

Lisa Batiashvili and Staatskapelle Berlin under Daniel Barenboim’s baton present an unforgettable version of Tchaikovsky’ and Sibelius’ violin concertos, two of the most beloved, passionate and demanding pieces for violin and orchestra
This album celebrates a happy and consolidated collaboration of one of the finest violinists of our times with one of the best orchestras of the world and the legendary pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim
Ten years ago Daniel Barenboim initiated Berlin's open-air "State Opera for All" concert on the historic Bebelplatz. With more than 40,000 spectators each year, it attracts a larger audience than any other classical concert in Germany. In each of the last four years the guest soloist has been Lisa Batiashvili, who on each occasion has performed one of the world's great violin concertos: Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky in 2015 and in this year Sibelius
"I absolutely love Sibelius' violin concerto. I have the feeling it's really a part of my life and of my musical story, because so many things happened around this concerto in my life. The first most important was the final of the Sibelius Competition in 1995 where I performed this concerto for the first time with the orchestra." – Lisa Batiashvili
As the youngest-ever participant of the Sibelius Competition, Lisa immediately managed to win the second prize – a jump-start to a lightning career
As Lisa recalls, her musical partnership with Daniel Barenboim started over the phone: "Barenboim heard me for the first time during a television broadcast of the Sibelius Concerto with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Shortly afterwards he rang me up to congratulate me and ask me if we could perform the piece together."
"I feel that this time with Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin, we brought a lot of new insights to it in some ways, even though the ground feeling for me for the piece will always stay the same." – Lisa Batiashvili This version of the Sibelius Concerto brings back a fresh approach to the famous score, by being as true and faithful to the score as possible, and by avoiding all the known and repeated traditional playing conventions and habits.
This album is the first ever recording of Tchaikovsky's famous and romantic violin concerto for both, Lisa Batiashvili and Daniel Barenboim. "It was a big surprise to me to hear that he had never recorded Tchaikovsky and it makes it even more special for me. I have the feeling that we really worked on it very closely, because that was my strongest experience with that piece – just to work it with him…"
The Guardian stated about Lisa's performance with Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin at the Royal Festival Hall in 2015: "Lisa Batiashvili was the ferocious soloist in Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, intense in the first movement, luminous and heartfelt in the second, scintillating in the quickfire finale. It was a faultless performance, enthralling and electrifying."

Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 6 'Pathetique' - Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pierre Monteux (1955/2013) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/176,4kHz

Genre: Classical
Label: © Radio Corporation Of America | Sony Music Entertainment

Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 176,4kHz/24bit

Duration: 00:44:10
Recorded: January 26, 1955, Symphony Hall, Boston

One of the earliest stereo recordings by legendary RCA Living Stereo engineer Lewis Layton, the "Pathetique" was recorded with a handful of microphones feeding a pair of mono mixers, each feeding one channel of an RCA RT-21 quarter-inch 2-track tape recorder, running at 30 inches per second. RCA engineers favored Neumann U-47 and M49/50 condenser microphones and RCA 77DX ribbon microphones.
Reunited three decades later with the orchestra he led in the early 1920s, Pierre Monteux produced a “Pathetique” both gripping and exhilarating. Monteux and the Boston Symphony Orchestra interpret Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 with unbelievable musicality. The RCA Living Stereo production team gave the music its due in a clear and dynamic landmark of early stereophony. This album is a treat for an audiophile's ears.

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Ballet Suites For Piano Duo - Mari & Momo Kodama (2016) High-Fidelity DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz

Artist: Mari Kodama, Momo Kodama

Release Date: 2016

Recorded: Studio 5, MCO Hilversum, The Netherlands in April 2016.

Together for the first time in the recording studio, the sisters Mari and Momo Kodama are on scintillating form in these lively arrangements of music from Tchaikovsky’s ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker. In another first, the release contains the first ever recording of Arensky’s transcription of the timeless Nutcracker together with notable arrangements by Debussy and Rachmaninov.
Conceived on a grand scale, Tchaikovsky’s colourful, often passionate scores for the ballets Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker abound with graceful melodies, arresting harmonies and exuberant orchestration. The music has proved enduringly popular with audiences and rates among his most familiar and best-loved works. Composers such as Arensky, Debussy and Rachmaninov made arrangements of these works for piano, not mere reductions but wholesale realisations of the works, combining subtlety and insight with their own technical polish.
“Tchaikovsky was really the first composer to combine a broad sweep of ballet music with a great story,” the Kodama sisters write in their introduction to the release, “before that, it more resembled a compilation of pieces…in all three works there is folkloric and popular music. He has the great skill to make such vivid colours and textures on a large canvas… This makes his orchestral works very special.”
“Our challenge was to use just two pianos … to bring the same sense of scale,” they write, “with just two pianos the atmosphere is more intimate, it brings a different quality to the music. And the composers who made the transcriptions brought their own personality to bear on the works. So we tried to reflect that in our playing.”
The sisters Mari and Momo Kodama both pursue busy international careers. Momo specialises in French and Japanese composers and 20th century and contemporary composers; she has been widely praised for her ‘attractive, lyrical tone’ and ‘technical brilliance’. Mari has established an international reputation for profound musicality and articulate virtuosity; she has recorded extensively for PENTATONE, including an acclaimed cycle of the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.
“We are quite different pianists and have our own ideas and approaches,” they write, “so we have spirited discussions. But we always find we are aiming for the same thing, usually from a different angle. So it’s been fun to record these works and it has brought us a lot of sisterly joy too!”

Recorded live at Keystone Korner, San Francisco, May 11-16, 1976

Getz/Gilberto '76 is an instant classic collection of never-before-released recordings captured May 11-16, 1976 at the legendary San Francisco jazz club Keystone Korner, showcasing the legendary Brazilian singer, guitarist and composer João Gilberto, accompanied by the saxophone icon Stan Getz and his rhythm section of pianist Joanne Brackeen, bassist Clint Houston and drummer Billy Hart. These recordings were made during João Gilberto's and Stan Getz's weeklong engagement at the Keystone, which took place nearly 12 years after the release of their initial award-winning album.
The first Getz/Gilberto album sold over one million copies and almost single-handedly launched the bossa nova craze in America and around the world. It's been said that the hit single off that album, "The Girl From Ipanema," is the second most recorded song of all time, behind only "Yesterday" by the Beatles. The 1976 Keystone engagement represents one of the very few times this famed duo reunited after their initial creative collaboration in 1962, and according to the club's founder and owner Todd Barkan, this engagement was João Gilberto's first public performance after a four year hiatus
Back in 2012, George Klabin and I assumed the guise of a couple of jazz loving Indiana Jones - type archeologists when we decided to take an adventure: we were going to go after the crown jewels of a riveting tape collection amassed by Todd Barkan, the legendary jazz impresario and owner of San Francisco's iconic jazz club, Keystone Komer. Our adventure would take us deep into a treasure trove of live recordings made at the Keystone by the artists who played there.

Soundgarden - Down On The Upside (1996/2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Title: Down On The Upside
Genre: Rock, Alternative Metal, Grunge, Heavy Metal
Label: © A&M Records
Release Date: 1996/2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit

Duration: 01:05:54
Recorded: November 1995 – February 1996, Studio Litho and Bad Animals Studio, Seattle, Washington, US

The pressure was on Soundgarden to follow up 1994's breakthrough release Superunknown and the band didn't disappoint with Down On The Upside. Peaking at number two and selling well over a million copies in the US, the self-produced album spawned American rock radio hits Burden In My Hand, Blow Up The Outside World and Pretty Noose, which also went top 15 in the UK. Despite the worldwide success of the two consecutive albums, tension among the group members became unbearable and less than a year after Down On The Upside came out, Soundgarden split up, not to reunite for another 16 years.

Sonic Youth - NYC Ghosts & Flowers (2000/2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Sonic Youth
Title: NYC Ghosts & Flowers
Genre: Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, Experimental Rock, Post Rock, Noise Rock, Grunge
Label: © DGC/Geffen Records
Release Date: 2000/2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit

Duration: 00:42:43
Recorded: August 1999 – February 2000, New York City

Continuing their high-brow path towards avant-garde guitar music and away from their late '80s punk-influenced style of controlled cacophony, Sonic Youth have continued to make it difficult for fans to follow their evolving style of influential alternative rock. With the aid of renowned producer Jim O'Rourke, this iconic group has stripped away much of the murky sound that polluted its late '80s masterpieces such as Daydream Nation and Sister. This new style of clean production on NYC Ghosts & Flowers also differs from the group's early '90s sound partly attributed to Butch Vig on colorful albums such as Dirty and Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star, where Vig masterfully juxtaposed the group's knack for noise with his gift for salient production. Similar to Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star, Sonic Youth have again written a collection of shorter songs, focused primarily upon lyrics and song structuring rather than guitars. Thurston Moore's songs dominate this record, sounding unlike anything he has ever written. These songs seem to evolve spontaneously, moving into and then out of Moore's Ginsberg-like beatnik vocals. Songs such as "Free City Rhymes" and "Small Flowers Crack Concrete" sound like the music from SYR 1 and SYR 2 accompanied by subtly spoken poetry, focused more on enunciation than melody. More than ever, it seems as if Moore has abandoned his goofball charisma of the past for his new status as an ambitious poet looking to be respected as much for his words as his guitar. Kim Gordon's contribution, "Nevermind (What Was It Anyway)," stands above all other songs on the album as the only song with a memorable yet kooky vocal melody: "Boys go to Jupiter to more stupider/ Girls go to Mars to become rock stars." Contributed by Lee Ranaldo, the title track of this album serves as the guitarist's best lyrical piece to date and also as the album's grand finale, stretching to nearly ten minutes of slow building guitar intensity. In the end, this Sonic Youth album will appeal to those attracted to the group's mellow side -- a subtle side of the group more interested in collective contemplation than electrifying energy. Never before has the group sounded so consciously mature. For some fans, this album will sound refreshing, but for the many Sonic Youth fans still in love with the confrontational attitude of "Death Valley '69," the charged feel of "Teenage Riot," or the epic scope of "The Diamond Sea" this album may sound tired. --AllMusic Review by Jason Birchmeier
