Fleetwood Mac’s streak of five consecutive multi-platinum albums began in the Seventies and continued in 1982 with „Mirage“, the follow-up to the band’s 1979 double-album, Tusk. During the summer of 1982, Mirage topped the album chart and added to the band’s already impressive canon of hits with “Hold Me,” “Love In Store” and “Gypsy.”
Following last year’s deluxe edition of Tusk, Fleetwood Mac continues chronologically with the deluxe edition of „Mirage“. This new edition expands on the original album with newly remastered sound, a selection of rare and unreleased recordings, as well as the stories and pictures behind the album.
In 1982 Fleetwood Mac topped the U.S. Album Chart for five weeks with „Mirage“. Along with instantly recognizable smash hits like “Hold Me” and “Gypsy,” „Mirage“ also features great album tracks like “Oh Diane,” a Top Ten hit in the UK, and “Straight Back,” a Top 40 hit on the Billboard Rock Chart.
The new deluxe editions of „Mirage“ includes 19 tracks dedicated entirely to outtakes and rarities. Among the unreleased gems are early versions of several album tracks – “Empire State” and “Book Of Love” – along with outtakes for songs that didn’t make it to the album: “If You Were My Love” and “Smile At You.” There is also an unreleased cover of the Fats Domino classic “Blue Monday,” as well as the rare, extended mix for “Gypsy” that was used in the music video.
Exclusive to the deluxe edition of „Mirage“ is a dozen live performances recorded in Los Angeles during Fleetwood Mac’s 1982 U.S. tour. Along with early hits – “You Make Loving Fun” and “The Chain” – the collection includes performances of „Mirage“ standouts like “Love In Store,” “Eyes Of The World” and “Gypsy.”

Less than a century ago it was still very common that great violinists like Heifetz, Kreisler, Menuhin etc. played virtuosic pieces in their concerts, very often also their own transcriptions. Nowadays these pieces are unfortunately rarely played in concert halls, sometimes with the reason that this kind of repertoire is “not serious enough”, which I find is really a pity and also not true. Usually violinists study this repertoire at a young age to expand their technical ability on the instrument but afterwards, they tend to focus more on Concertos and Sonatas. I have to admit that the last time I myself played this repertoire was before I was even a teenager, and I had almost forgotten about it.
However, every time I work together with Larry Foster, he is full of stories about Jasha Heifetz from their time together in the 1960s and it is like being taken to another world. Then suddenly the idea came to us; why not make a recording full of these pieces like in the “old days”?

Recorded: July 23, July 31 and August 13, 1957 in Los Angeles

Mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound from the original analog master tapes to vinyl and PCM. The DSD was sourced from the PCM. George listened to all of the different A/D converters he had before he chose which to use, and he felt the George Massenburg GML 20 bit A/D produced the best and most synergistic sound for the project.

There isn't much one can say about an album whose title is Ella And Louis Again. The "again" obviously means they've already done one album together and beyond that, what can you say about two people like Ella and Louis? I doubt that there's anyone today who loves music, who doesn't know Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. The backing, with the Oscar Peterson Trio and Louis Bellson substituting for Buddy Rich, remains, as in the first album, quiet, discreet, swinging.

The very fact that America's biggest jazz label called one of their albums quite simply Ella and Louis indicates that we are talking about something very special here. And surely enough has been said - "Satchmo" and the grande dame of jazz certainly need no further introduction. In the '50s just the mere mention of their forenames was enough to light up the eyes of jazz fans. A glance at the track list reveals that tranquility rules the day: wild stomps and improvised scats will neither be sought nor missed. Of prime importance to the jazz ballad is a feeling of "letting oneself drift" in the inspiration which gushes forth from the minds of genial American songwriters. This is no contest - for the artists all pursue a common goal with extreme sensitiveness. The background combo, made up of first-class musicians and led by Oscar Peterson, performs with great concentration and almost obtrusive unobtrusiveness. Verve's highly successful producer Norman Granz decided quite deliberately to make the recording in the studio instead of at a live session. And success has verified his judgment, for such vocal jazz knows only gentle tones - but the result is all the more intensive for that.

Like Someone in Love is a 1957 studio album by the American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, with a studio orchestra arranged and conducted by Frank DeVol. This album represents a fine example of Ella's singing from this period, recorded at the same time as her albums with Louis Armstrong.
The album was also recorded in the midst of her epic 'Songbooks' project, celebrating the composers of the 'Great American Songbook' and Broadway. The album features only four songs written by the composers featured in her 'Songbooks', instead concentrating on very famous ballads by lesser known writers. Some songs on the album were also recorded with Armstrong on the albums that they collaborated on from this period. The famous American saxophonist Stan Getz is featured on tenor sax on four tracks, including "Midnight Sun" and "You're Blasé". Ted Nash plays the alto sax and solos. Cover photos are by the great Phil Stern.

Earl Hines and Jaki Byard - Duet! (1975/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/88,2kHz

Artist: Earl Hines and Jaki Byard
Title: Duet!
Genre: Jazz, Piano Jazz
Label: © MPS - Musik Produktion Schwarzwald | Edel Germany GmbH
Release Date: 1975/2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 88,2kHz/24bit

Recorded by Paul Goodman (RCA) February 14, 1972, Paris, France

Earl Hines is seen as the “Fatha” of modern jazz piano (see Fatha and His Flock), while Jaki Byard is best known for his play on some of Charles Mingus’ greatest albums. Hines was a major influence on the 15 year younger Byard, one of the reasons Jaki had such a deep-rooted understanding for tradition. Byard’s A-Toodle-Oo, Toodle Oo is a romp with a boogie-woogie beat. Hines’ This Is Always has Earl’s and Jaki’s arpeggios flowing through this lovely ballad. The two offer up a harmonically lush version of the Hines classic, Rosetta, while I Can’t Trust Myself Alone is a Hines solo tour de force. Hines starts off the evergreen Sweet Georgia Brown rubato before the two take off on an up-tempo escapade. As Long As I Live presents a breathtaking battle between friendly giants, and Byard portrays Genoa To Pescara in an impressionistic solo. On La Rosita the two tango, exchanging lead and accompaniment with ease and grace. Two piano giants in an incomparable get-together – this is something to treasure.
