The Fantasía is a 1978 performance from the English Chamber Orchestra while the Concierto de Aranjuez is from a 1979 recording with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Both orchestras bring out the best in Rodrigo’s music, with its astounding ability to evoke feelings and visualizations of rural Spain and its romantic past.

Recorded: Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS Hall, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2002 (Disc 1), November 2003 (Disc 2), November 2004 (Disc 3) and November 2002 (Disc 4)

Two recent collections of Russian orchestral music – the Symphonies of Glazunov (BIS-CD-1663/64) and of Rachmaninov (BIS-CD-1665/66) – are here followed by a boxed 4-disc set of orchestral works by Rimsky-Korsakov. The recordings were all made between 2000 and 2002 with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra under their founding principal conductor Kees Bakels, and received much praise at the time of their original releases. The generous selection, at a very advantageous price, contains the composer's 'greatest hits' – the rendition of Sheherazade was called 'a particular joy' by International Record Review – as well as the less commonly-heard three symphonies, in performances which to the reviewer of web site Classics Today proved 'the Malaysian Philharmonic members fully immersed in the composer's unique sound world.' Another rarity is the Piano Concerto in C sharp minor, in which eminent pianist Noriko Ogawa makes an appearance.
The collection also includes a broad sample of the music for the theatre, a field in which Rimsky-Korsakov had some of his greatest successes. Indeed, the disc particularly dedicated to the theatre music caused particular joy to the reviewer on the web site klassik.com who claimed that the performers 'painted the imaginary musical canvas with a truly wonderful array of highly sophisticated colours'. Besides praising the orchestra and conductor, most reviewers found cause to commend the sound quality of the recordings, as here, on Classics Today: 'The brilliance and realism are simply breathtaking, with a full dynamic range, ideal depth and breadth of soundstage, firm bass, open highs, and a panoramic splendor unrivaled on disc.

Ottorino Respighi - Sinfonia drammatica, Belfagor ouverture - Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liege, John Neschling (2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Composer: Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936)
Artist: Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, John Neschling
Title: Respighi: Sinfonia drammatica, Belfagor ouverture
Genre: Classical
Label: © BIS Records
Release Date: 2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: eClassical
Duration: 70:03
Recorded: April 2015 at the Salle philharmonique, Liège, Belgium

Ottorino Respighi is primarily associated with his Roman trilogy, composed between 1916 and 1928 and celebrating the eternal city and its fountains, pines and festivals. Respighi was however a highly prolific composer – in most genres – and all of his orchestral works, composed both before and after the trilogy, display the qualities that have made the Pines and Fountains of Rome core repertoire in concert halls around the world. After recording the Roman trilogy with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, John Neschling has continued to explore Respighi's lavish orchestral scores with the Belgian Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, on discs released to international acclaim: Neschling has been described as 'one of the finest advocates this composer has ever had, delivering all the fireworks and the depth too' (MusicWeb-International.com), and his musicians have been praised for displaying 'orchestral refinement on the highest level' (Klassik-Heute.de). On the team's third disc, the turn has come to Respighi's Sinfonia drammatica – a score of epic proportions (58 minutes plus in the present performance) for a correspondingly large-scale orchestra. Both these factors may explain in part why it is rarely performed and recorded, but the work also has a dark-hued, intense – and, indeed, dramatic – character which will surprise those only familiar with Respighi's more extrovert scores. Closing the disc is the better-known Belfagor Overture, a work from 1924 in which Respighi rescued material from an opera with the same title which had been less than warmly received at its première in 1923. Described as a 'lyric comedy', the opera tells the story of how a devil – Belfagor himself – comes to earth to learn more about love between humans, and the orchestral overture highlights the two main characters, Belfagor and Candida, 'the girl, pure, loving and faithful'.

Many Eastern and Midwestern musicians helped sustain the West Coast jazz scene in the ’50s and ’60s, but the only one among them who made an impact in Southern California on Hammond organ was New Jersey native Richard “Groove” Holmes. This was Holmes’s first recording for Prestige, and it both confirmed his status as one of the B-3’s leading practitioners and elevated his profile with the crossover success of “Misty.” Armed with a talented and totally sympathetic rhythm section, a program that emphasized jazz classics (including the first cover version of Horace Silver’s “Song for My Father”) plus two infectious originals, and a unique sound that created excitement without flamboyance and allowed the brilliant bass lines created by his skillful pedal work to shine through with clarity, Holmes turned Soul Message into the signature album of his celebrated career.

Raydio - Rock On (1979/2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Raydio
Title: Rock On
Genre: Funk, R&B, Soul, Disco
Label: © Arista Records
Release Date: 1979/2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: HDTracks
Duration: 45:07
Recorded: 1978-1979, Raydio Studios; Mastered at A&M Studios

To be taken seriously as an R&B group and to shake the stigma of their nursery rhyme hit "Jack and Jill" (their debut single), Raydio answers the call on this album with two Billboard R&B singles. The first is "You Can't Change That," a laid-back yet very danceable track; it features the vocals of the mild-tempered Ray Parker, Jr. and the distinctive tenor of Arnell Carmichael. The two alternate between the verses, and Carmichael ad libs in the vamp. "You Can't Change That" resided on the R&B charts for 19 weeks, peaking at number three; it also reached the number nine position on the pop charts. The follow-up single, "More Than One Way to Love a Woman," was a midtempo track that made it to the 25th spot on the R&B charts after a 13-week run. --AllMusic Review by Craig Lytle

This was the first of three albums from Raydio. On this album, the group consisted of Vincent Bonham, Jerry Knight, Ray Parker, Jr. and Arnell Carmichael. Formed and fronted by veteran session guitarist Parker, this album produced three Billboard R&B chart singles. Beginning with the Top Ten single "Jack and Jill," Raydio enjoyed national exposure with this single that peaked at number five after 25 weeks on the charts, and it reached the number eight spot on the pop charts, exceeding sales of 500,000. The less popular releases "Is This a Love Thing" and "Honey I'm Rich" respectively reached the 20th and 43th positions on the Billboard R&B charts. --AllMusic Review by Craig Lytle

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/48kHz

Artist: Radiohead
Title: A Moon Shaped Pool
Genre: Rock, Alternative Rock, Art Rock, Experimental Rock, Indie Electronic
Label: © XL Recordings
Release Date: 2016
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 48kHz/24bit

Duration: 00:52:37

The previously released "Burn the Witch" and "Daydreaming" aren't the only familiar songs to Radiohead fans: A Moon Shaped Pool's "Ful Stop" and "Identikit" were setlist staples during the band's tour in support of The King of Limbs, while "Present Tense," which dates back to 2009, was performed by both Thom Yorke and Atoms for Peace.
"Desert Island Disk" and "The Numbers" (formerly known as "Silent Spring) both debuted during Yorke's solo Pathway to Paris concert. However, most surprising is the inclusion of "True Love Waits," a decades-old ballad that was previously released - in concert form - on the band's 2001 live EP I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings.
A Moon Shaped Pool will receive a physical CD and vinyl release on June 17th. Additionally, Radiohead will release a special edition of the album in September featuring a case bound album "inspired by the albums for 78rpm shellac records in the library of La Fabrique, France" with two 180-gram LPs, two CDs (the album plus a disc with two additional songs), a 32-page book, an immediate digital download of the album and a "recording tape belly band applied."
"This is a piece of a Radiohead ½ inch master tape from an actual recording session. The tape degrades over time and becomes unplayable. We thought rather than it ending up as landfill we would cut it up and make it useful as a part of the special edition. A new life for some obsolete technology," the band wrote. "Each loop contains about ¾ of a second of audio - which could be from any era in the band's recording past going back to Kid A. You may have silence, you may have coloured leader tape, you may have a chorus... It's a crapshoot. We have copies. Don't worry."
Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich tweeted after the album arrived, "Making this album was a very intense experience for me. I lost my dad in the process...Hence a large piece of my soul lives here in a good way. I eternally thank my brothers in radiohead for all the love that went into it.. and for their support. happy listening all!" --Daniel Kreps, RollingStone
