Motley Crue may have been the glam metal kings of the '80s. But, for a while at least, Twisted Sister gave them heated competition. While the Crue and their L.A. cohorts (Ratt, Dokken, etc.) were dead-serious in their approach, Twisted Sister's music and videos always contained an element of humor-something most bands of the era sorely lacked. 1984's Stay Hungry was Twisted Sister's double-platinum breakthrough, its popularity spurred by the imaginative (and hilarious) videos for the hits 'We're Not Gonna Take It' and 'I Wanna Rock.'
The Long Island-based Twisted Sister built a solid following, gigging constantly since the early '70s and riding on the strength of such albums as „Under The Blade“ and „You Can‘t Stop Rock n‘ Roll“. All of which set the band up for „Stay Hungry“. Singer Dee Snider proved to quite an intimidating figure, bedecked in garish make-up and transvestite gear, and his outspoken personality carried Twisted Sister's songs and stage-show. Stay Hungry proved to be the band's finest hour, containing such tracks as 'Burn In Hell,' 'The Price,' 'S.M.F.,' 'Horror-Teria,' and 'Stay Hungry' itself. Unfortunately, Twisted Sister was unable to sustain such success, and the band broke up only a few years later.

By that time Coltrane was a household name, leading his own band, at least as famous or even more so than Monk. This album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.

The Wombats - Glitterbug (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/44,1kHz

Title: Glitterbug
Genre: Pop Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, New Wave, Post-Punk Revival

Duration: 46:00

Following up the group's literate, giddy 2011 effort, This Modern Glitch, Britain's Wombats return with their equally euphoric and lyrically pointed third full-length album, 2015's Glitterbug. Still centered on lead singer/songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist Matthew Murphy along with bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Tord Øverland-Knudsen and drummer/vocalist Daniel Haggis, the Wombats make an immediately infectious, skillfully polished brand of '80s-influenced synth pop that also manages to weave in the energy of '90s cool Britannia as well as the wry, often humorous social commentary of bands like the Kinks. Working with producer Mark Crew, who previously helmed Bastille's Bad Blood, the Wombats build upon the buoyant, dance-oriented vibe of This Modern Glitch, honing their sound into a tight, glossy sheen that hints at the bombastic new wave productions of '80s bands like Tears for Fears, while also fitting nicely alongside more contemporary releases by acts like the Killers and the 1975. Musically, the songs on Glitterbug are as catchy as anything they've done previously, and the group's layered, kinetic productions perfectly showcase Murphy's resonant, insistent croon. However, what sets the Wombats apart from their danceclub-minded brethren are Murphy's distinctive lyrics. Much like the Kinks' Ray Davies in the '60s or Pulp's Jarvis Cocker in the '90s, Murphy brings a sharp-witted party monster's eye for spilling the details of crazy relationships and the full-tilt boozy adventures of urban twentysomethings. In "Greek Tragedy," he sings "We're smashing mics in karaoke bars/You're running late with half your makeup on." Similarly, in "Give Me a Try," he admits "I know that I like to let excess exceed/But I just need you in that fur coat/With only my necklace on underneath," ending with the ominously cheeky "Everything I need/Vicodin on Sunday nights/This could be worth the risk." However, Murphy's knack for poignantly juxtaposing the drive for fun with the search for meaning is perhaps best expressed on the anthemic "This Is Not a Party," in which he lists off what's going on with various single-named people at an unhinged, debauched soirée. He sings "Roxy's made the call, although her boyfriend wants to go/Jane's sprawled on the floor and I have lost all self-control." Ultimately, it's this kind of life-is-short pop energy, imbued with Murphy's well-curated sense of time and place, that helps elevate the Wombats' Glitterbug from just a one-crazy-night soundtrack to an album that might stick with you for years to come. As Murphy shouts over his laser-toned keyboard, "This is not a party, it's a hurricane." --AllMusic Review by Matt Collar

Recorded at MPS Studios, Villingen, July 1971

Masterful piano playing meets up with elaborate vocal harmony in this legendary MPS summit meeting from the label’s early period. Oscar Peterson, MPS head Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer’s long-time friend and collaborator, along with Peterson’s colleagues, bassist George Mraz and drummer Louis Hayes, act as the counterweights to the vocal architects from Chicago. Peterson himself instigated the first contact between the Schwarzwald studio and The Singers Unlimited (TSU). That contact developed into a fruitful decade-long relationship; the Villingen studio’s superb technology perfectly suited the sophisticated requirements of vocal artist and leader Gene Puerling. Recorded in 1971, “In Tune” was TSU’s first album on MPS. It feeds off the languages of the two musical poles, whether it’s in the swinging give and take of the opener, “Sesame Street”, or in the switch from the reverential orchestrally-layered choir intro to Peterson’s sparkling play on “It Never Entered My Mind”. It’s the same with the dreamy arrangement of “The Shadow of Your Smile”; in his role as delicate accompanist, Peterson narrows it down to the essentials. Peterson and TSU soprano Bonnie Herman take improvisatory strolls together in the nostalgic Michel Legrand ballad “Once Upon a Summertime”. Two Brazilian excursions are highlighted: In Antônio Carlos Jobim’s “Children’s Game” TSU delivers polysyllabic ornamentation to Peterson’s rollicking waltz whimsy; in Luis Bonfá‘s “The Gentle Rain”, Peterson plays around with the amative choral harmonies.

The Oscar Peterson Trio with Herb Ellis - Hello Herbie (1970/2014) FLAC Stereo 24bit/88,2kHz

Artist: The Oscar Peterson Trio with Herb Ellis
Title: Hello Herbie
Genre: Jazz, Bop, Piano Jazz
Label: © MPS - Musik Produktion Schwarzwald | Edel Germany GmbH
Release Date: 1970/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 88,2kHz/24bit
Source: highresaudio.com
Duration: 37:59
Recorded at MPS-Studio, Villingen in November 5–6, 1969

Guitarist Herb Ellis still considers this to be one of his personal favorite recordings. Ellis was reunited with his old boss Oscar Peterson and, with the assistance of Peterson's trio of the period (with bassist Sam Jones and drummer Bobby Durham), the two lead voices often romp on the jam session-flavored set. Most of the chord changes are fairly basic (including three blues and "Seven Come Eleven"), and Peterson was clearly inspired by Ellis' presence (and vice versa). --AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

They are not just great, they are stunning. The band had always known that The Enid music could really come to life in surround-sound. these results have surpassed all I had hoped for, breaking all ties with an often cluttered stereo field, in surround the music has grown wings. Well done Max."

Pepper by the Beatles.

The Beach Boys - M.I.U. Album (1978/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Released in 1978, this Beach Boys album is named for the Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa where it was recorded, a move that caused great turmoil within the band. Neither Dennis nor Carl Wilson approved of the decision, prompted by Mike Love's adherence to Transcendental Meditation. As a result, only Love, Al Jardine and Brian Wilson were involved in any major way. The single Come Go With Me, re-released off a compilation in 1981, broke into the top 20 the second time around.
