Gould's first Columbia recording of twentieth-century music, though he had already recorded the Berg Sonata for the Canadian Hallmark label in 1951 – his very first commercial recording. Krenek’s obscure Third Sonata cropped up time and again in Gould’s recitals, including his last public appearance on 10 April 1964 in Los Angeles.

Ben Harper's third release, 1997's The Will To Live, broadens his sound from the folk-inflected songs of his earlier work to include elements of funk, blues, reggae and rock, a recipe Harper would return to over the years. While not a major success in the US at the time, the album garnered good reviews and includes Harper's first UK charted single, Faded.

Wilhelm Kempff was the premier German pianist of the postwar period, so it's no surprise that he was considered one of the supreme interpreters of Beethoven. He recorded complete sets of the sonatas and concertos twice, and just about all the rest of the chamber music with piano as well. Kempff was a classicist by nature, and his approach to Beethoven was clear and poised rather than impulsive, but it was never lacking in sheer power or virtuosity when necessary. His last cycle of Beethoven sonatas is rightly regarded as his musical testament. Even if the mono recordings offered a few more exciting moments in a couple of works, you can't go wrong here — there isn't a dud in the lot.

When Nikolaus Harnoncourt retired from the stage in December last year, it was his express wish to release the broadcast recording of his last project, Beethoven’s monumental “Missa solemnis” as his personal legacy.
The 'Missa solemnis' concerts at the Styriarte Festival Graz and the Salzburg Festival in summer 2015 were his last public performances. This recording of Beethoven's late masterpiece was made from material captured at the Graz concerts and rehearsals.
As a result of his life-long research on Beethoven, he conducted the work for the first time with the Concentus Musicus Wien on period instruments, the Concentus is joined by the Vienna based Arnold Schoenberg Choir and a handpicked solo quartet.

In Colette’s famous phrase, Pierre Fournier “sings better than anything that sings”. Nowhere is this truer than in his iconic recordings of the six Bach suites. The suites were so much part of him that on the afternoon before a concert he was heard asking which of them he was playing that evening.
Basle Cathedral was packed on two Sunday evenings in the autumn of 1962 to hear Fournier play the complete set of Bach Suites. “One man and four stirings mesmerizing more than 2000 people … an indescribable palette of colours, or contrasts … an extraordinary demonstration of thought, of mastery, of style.” Few listeners to Fournier’s Bach performances have been able to forget them; the audience before the isolated figure high on the square platform in the nave of Basle Cathedral was no exception. Azio Corghi (b.1937), allievo tra gli altri di Massimo Mila e Bruno Bettinelli, nel 1967 vince il concorso Ricordi-Rai con Intavolature, che viene eseguito alla Fenice di Venezia. Insegna dapprima al Conservatorio di Torino, poi al Conservatorio di Milano. Per la stagione 1989-1990 va in scena alla Scala Blimunda, opera su libretto del compositore stesso e del Nobel Josè Saramago. In occasione del bicentenario rossiniano compone Suite dodo, da Péchés de vieillesse di Rossini. È Accademico di Santa Cecilia, coordinatore dei corsi e docente di composizione all’Accademia Petrassi. Intraprende nel 2000 la composizione di Amori incrociati, dal Decameron nella versione di A. Busi, commissione dell’Orchestra della Rai. Nel 2001 scrive lettura e commento dal Vangelo secondo Gesù di Saramago sopra la Via Crucis di Liszt. In occasione del centenario belliniano, scrive ...malinconia, ninfa gentile per il Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania. L’Accademia di Santa Cecilia presieduta da Luciano Berio gli commissiona De paz e de guerra, su testo di Saramago. Nel 2005 scrive Il dissoluto assolto, teatro musicale in un atto su libretto proprio e di Saramago, coproduzione del Teatro San Carlos di Lisbona e del Teatro alla Scala di Milano. In occasione del 25° anniversario della fondazione della Filarmonica della Scala, l’orchestra gli ha commissionato Poema Sinfonico, la cui prima è stata diretta da Riccardo Chailly. Per i 500 anni dalla nascita del Palladio, gli è stata commissiona Giocasta, rilettura in chiave moderna (libretto di Maddalena Mazzocut-Mis) dell’Edipo Tiranno di Sofocle. Nel marzo 2013, ospite d’onore della terza edizione di "Play it", festival di musica contemporanea dell’Orchestra della Toscana, ha ricevuto un premio alla carriera.

Aretha Franklin is one of the giants of soul music, and indeed of American pop as a whole. More than any other performer, she epitomized soul at its most gospel-charged. The Queen in Waiting is Aretha Franklin's 2002 compilation album featuring popular tracks "God Bless the Child", "Skylark", "Only the Lonely" and "Try a Little Tenderness". The album includes Aretha's last Columbia recordings produced by Bob Johnston, noted for his work during this period with Bob Dylan; and songs that Columbia "sweetened" with new musicians after Aretha left the label.
