Delving into golden age of pop/folk music from the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Susan has reinterpreted classics such as the Beatles’ Something, the Turtles’ Happy Together, Creedence Clearwater Revivals’ Have You Ever Seen The Rain and The Mama’s & the Papa’s California Dreaming in her own laid-back intimate acoustic pop, folk and bossa nova style. Susan stepped in to the world of Beyoncé with an intimate acoustic version of the hit, Halo. The album was masterly mixed by Yvan Bing (co-producer of the latest album from Phil Collins). Spoon - Gimme Fiction (2005/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Spoon
Title: Gimme Fiction {Deluxe Reissue}
Genre: Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock, Art Rock
Label: © Merge Records
Release Date: 2005/2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit

Recorded: July–September 2004

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Spoon classic, Merge will release a deluxe limited-edition version of Gimme Fiction on double-LP (180g) and double-CD. The reissue contains the album remastered by Howie Weinberg from the original tapes, a second disc with 12 previously unreleased demos from the era, nine additional bonus tracks via digital download, and a full-color book containing photos and an extensive oral history of the making of the album. The deluxe LP package will also include a 24” x 36” poster.
Gimme Fiction dragged the sonic pointillism of Kill the Moonlight further into dub-influenced weirdness as the increasingly confident Spoon went crazy in the studio, experimenting with everything from warped hip-hop samples to horse whinnies. How all this directionless Dylan worship and psychedelic goofing resulted in an album as sharply realized as Gimme Fiction is a testament solely to Spoon’s self-assurance and tastefulness (and some hard work, and a bit of luck, etc.). Whatever digging or strange alchemy had to go into it, they only produced more gold.
Gimme Fiction deserves special recognition because it’s the album where Spoon—backed into a corner—took some crazy leaps, all of them forward. It’s a “departure point” for a band that, lucky for us, has never made a real departure. And when it came time for a reissue, we knew it deserved a lasting place on vinyl, right alongside every other indispensable record in Spoon’s discography.

The eloquent power of Jean Sibelius’s symphonies and other core orchestral works has overshadowed his prolific output in other genres, including significant scores for the theatre. The commission to compose music for the tragic pantomime Scaramouche caused Sibelius much stress and frustration, but on its première the composer was able to note “great success in Copenhagen” in his diary. With the exception of his one opera, Scaramouche is Sibelius’s only continuous dramatic score, the story of the sinister hunchbacked dwarf’s bewitching musicianship and evil intent taking us from innocent charm to a nightmarish conclusion.

Recordings: Helsinki Music Centre, Finland, 17, 20 & 22 October 2014 (Lemminkäinen), 17 November 2014 (Pohjola’s Daughter)

Lemminkäinen Legends is a large and fascinating orchestral work in four movements based on the Finnish Kalevala epic. Originally completed in 1895 the work has a unique position in Sibelius' oeuvre: Sibelius never came closer to the very core of Symbolism than in the misty moods, swan motifs and macabre features of Lemminkäinen. It also includes one of Sibelius' most well-known orchestral pieces, The Swan of Tuonela. Written before the 1st Symphony, it is also noteworthy that Lemminkäinen lacks nothing of a symphony.
Sibelius was not totally satisfied with the work, but withdrew the work soon after its premiere until it was heard again in 1935. However, in his late years Sibelius did not even totally reject the idea of calling Lemminkäinen as ‘a symphony'.
Pohjola's Daughter (Pohjolan tytär), completed in 1906, is among Sibelius' final orchestral pieces directly linked to the Kalevala epic in his transition from National Romanticism towards a more Classical idiom. It includes some of the boldest and most dramatic scoring that Sibelius ever wrote, illustrating Väinämöinen's futile attempts to win the maiden of Pohjola for himself.
Year 2015 marks the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Jean Sibelius (1865-1957), also known as "Finland's national composer".

A fellow student of Rachmaninov’s at the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under Arensky and Taneyev, Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) occupies a unique sphere in Russian music. Rejecting the vocal and folkloristic music that occupied most of his contemporaries, he wrote exclusively for piano and for orchestra. His musical language constantly evolved over the length of his life, passing from the early influence of Chopin and Liszt, through a Wagnerian period, before reaching an atonal style that gazes far into the future of the 20th century’s sound world. Known for her interpretations of Scriabin's music, which she plays often in recital, Franco-Armenian pianist Varduhi Yeritsyan studied with both Brigitte Engerer and Pierre-Laurent Aimard. She made her UK debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in February 2014 at the Barbican where she premiered a new concerto for two pianos, by Bruno Mantovani, written for her and François-Frédéric Guy.

Recorded: Recorded in October 2006 (Unfinished) and December 2007 (Great C major) at the Örebro Concert Hall, Sweden

In 2008, to great acclaim, Thomas Dausgaard and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra completed their 3-disc cycle of Schumann's symphonies. Gramophone described it as 'riveting' while the German website klassik.com awarded it the claim of reference recording. The reviewer in Fanfare was struck by the excitement Dausgaard and company offered the listener ('what a ride . with sawing violins smoking down to the bridge and timpani-like rifle shots') while his colleague in International Record Review called the result 'the most perceptive Schumann cycle in over three decades'. Together with a recording of Dvorák's Sixth and Ninth Symphony released in 2007 the Schumann discs belong to a series entitled 'Opening Doors', in which Dausgaard makes a case for performing 19th-century symphonic works with a chamber-sized band. The turn has now come to Franz Schubert and his final works in the symphonic genre: the 'Unfinished' (Symphony No.8) and 'the 'Great C Major' (No.9). Both of these are also the most celebrated of all Schubert symphonies, which makes it all the more ironic that the composer never had the opportunity to hear them performed. As for the Eighth, with its distinctive, mysterious opening, it is not known why Schubert didn't complete it: a few jotted-down bars of a third movement is all that we have. The most likely explanation may simply be that Schubert remained unsatisfied with all of his attempts to match the degree of innovation achieved in the first two movements. The Ninth, on the other hand, does run its full course - and most gloriously so, with a Finale of exuberant festiveness. Unfortunately for the composer, the great (or, as Schumann put it: 'heavenly') length of the symphony and the technical demands it placed on the orchestra caused the only performance planned in Schubert's lifetime to be cancelled. In 1839 the score was found among his papers by Robert Schumann, and received its first performance shortly thereafter by Mendelssohn conducting the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra - eleven years after the composer's death.

Samantha Jade - Nine (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/44.1kHz

Nine is the second studio album by Australian singer Samantha Jade, released through Sony Music Australia on 20 November 2015. It is her first album of completely original material.
Nine has been in the works since Jade won The X Factor Australia in 2012, but experienced numerous delays – most notably the passing of her mother in 2014. In February 2014, Jade put her career on hold to care for her mother Jacqueline after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. While in hospital, her mother was heavily involved in the album's plans. "She actually had a lot of input into it... she was in bed and I was there with her so I went through all the artwork with her, all the ideas for the songs and played her the songs we had."
After her mother passed four months later, Jade continued recording for the album, newly inspired by her recent experiences. On 18 November 2014, she released a new single, "Sweet Talk". She decided to release a positive, summery song, as she "didn’t want to come out with anything too deep after the kind of year I've had." It was originally intended to be the lead single from Nine, however after a moderate peak of number 38 on the ARIA Singles Chart, it did not make the final track list.
The album's title, and title track, Nine is a reference to the nine years between releasing her debut single, "Step Up", and finally achieving her goal of releasing her first album of original material. Jade further explains the meaning behind the title; “When I wrote ‘Nine’, I wanted to get a sense of positivity in even the darkest moments so it came with the reference of being on cloud 9 or a cat with nine lives. The number 9 has also always been important in our family, and our birth dates have some sort of connection with it too. The song is very organic in that sense and directly from my heart.”
