Concertos is a disc that I and all of the artists featured on it have been working on for years. Initial recording took place in 2011 in Zlin, Czech Republic with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic. Some years separted these recordings and the more recent ones from Brno with the superb Brno Philharmonic orchestra and Mikel Toms.

The works on this disc span a period of about eight years of my creative life and move between dramatic and assertive music to music marked by fragility, tenderness and emotion. The performances are uniformly excellent and the audio quality is something about which we are proud!
For your consideration—please do think of this terrific disc when nominating season comes around!!

David Bowie - Five Years 1969-1973 (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: David Bowie
Title: Five Years 1969-1973
Genre: Rock, Art Rock, Experimental Rock, Glam Rock, Hard Rock, Proto-Punk, Singer/Songwriter
Label: © Parlophone Records
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 04:03:21
Recorded: 1969-73

The first in a series of career-spanning comprehensive box sets, Five Years 1969-1973 chronicles the beginning of David Bowie's legend by boxing all of his officially released music during those early years. This amounts to six studio albums -- 1969's David Bowie (aka Space Oddity); 1970's The Man Who Sold the World; 1971's Hunky Dory; 1972's The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars; Aladdin Sane, and Pin Ups (both from 1973); a pair of live albums (Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture Soundtrack and Live in Santa Monica '72, both released long after these five years) and a two-CD collection of non-LP tracks called Re:Call, plus Ken Scott's 2003 mix of Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust. That list suggests how "officially released" is a guideline that's easily bent. Live in Santa Monica '72 is a bootleg that became canonical in 1995, and the soundtrack to Ziggy Stardust didn't appear until 1983, but both are welcome because they either showcase the Spiders from Mars at their prime (Santa Monica) or at their end (Ziggy). Considering the number of edits, alternates, and B-sides Bowie released during this period, Re:Call is also a needed supplement, but it has some willful blind spots due to that "officially released" maxim: namely, any outtake released as a bonus on the Rykodisc reissues of the early '90s, including such major items as "Lightning Frightening," "Bombers," and "Sweet Head." Such absences are an irritant but not a major one because the box itself is quite handsome -- whether in its CD or LP incarnation, each record is packaged as a replica of its original release -- and the remastering is excellent, with Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory, and Pin Ups given upgrades to match the anniversary remasters of Ziggy and Aladdin Sane from the 2010s. The improved audio alone makes Five Years 1969-1973 a desirable box for serious Bowie fans, but the whole set does justice to one of the great creative runs in rock history. --AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Carmen Gomes Inc. - Little Blue (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Little Blue is a collection of songs that I feel strongly about. Songs of my youth that made an lingering impression and original compositions, some written a long time ago; some only recently.
They all deal with topics of everyday life that keeps my mind occupied: the choices we make, how we define ourselves and how we deal with life in general.
I was a reasonably happy but lonely kid. I felt myself an outsider, a bit different, maybe to a certain extend excluded. Making up for this, I locked myself in my room and listened to music, singing along with every song. I developed a taste for artists that were more ''deep''.... Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Neil Young. There was something in their voices that touched me, some emotion that I recognized.
I internalized all of Neil Young's lyrics; they made a huge impact on me and served as a heavy influence on the lyrics that I started writing myself. Billie's voice still tears me apart.
Growing up, I came across songs that stuck with me. Holding Back the years and Brass in Pocket for example. I strongly related to the lyrics. I could almost smell them. Songs about love in all it's splendour and compassion. Songs about addiction, inequality and loneliness. Songs about the eternal search for an answer. I’m a grown woman now, a mother, experienced, but still searching.
To sing a song I need to picture the story of the lyrics in my head; I have to feel them. If I can't feel them, I can't sing them. And how can I expect you to believe what I am singing if I don't feel it myself? So you can say that the songs on this album are very personal, very close.---Carmen Gomes

Anton Bruckner - Quintet & Quartet - Fitzwilliam String Quartet (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Anton Bruckner (1824-1896)
Artist: Fitzwilliam String Quartet
Title: Bruckner - Quintet & Quartet
Genre: Classical
Label: © LINN Records
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: LINN
Duration: 76 minutes 33 seconds
Recorded: November 2011, St Martin's Church, East Woodhay, Berkshire, United Kingdom

This is the first recording to use gut strings (a special set from Dan Larsen in Minnesota was obtained specially for this recording) and original instruments at the correct pitch for the time. Having first tackled the Bruckner Quintet nearly forty years ago , the Fitzwilliam's starting point was achieving the famous ‘Bruckner Sound' as well as considering tempo, bow strokes, use of vibrato and portamento in the performance. With many great moments (such as the Adagio) the Quintet is guaranteed an exalted place in the hierarchy of chamber masterworks.

Upon hearing the performance The Bruckner Journal wrote: 'It was a revelation to hear Bruckner's quintet played on instruments with this gut string set-up appropriate to the time of its composition, and to hear it performed with a flexible lyricism that has become a rare thing in Bruckner performance.'

Bob James, Nathan East - The New Cool (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/48kHz

Artist: Bob James, Nathan East
Title: The New Cool
Genre: Jazz
Label: © Yamaha Entertainment Group
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 48kHz/24bit
Source: HDTracks
Duration: 53:28

After 25 years of collaboration, Bob James and Nathan East are set to release their debut duo album The New Cool in September on Yamaha Entertainment Group. The New Cool marks new territory for legendary jazz pianist Bob James and bassist Nathan East, who’ve spent decades playing together in contemporary jazz quartet Fourplay but never before as an official duo. “The more I played with Nathan over the course of many live performances and spanning more than 20 years, the more in sync we were whether or not we had the anchor of the drums,” says James. “Something special happens when we only have each other’s notes to play off of, when the music is totally exposed.” Recorded entirely in Nashville, Tennessee, the album is a collection of original material contributed by both James and East, along with a small selection of standards. The duo’s musicianship is laid bare in a soulful reimagining of Irving Berlin’s “How Deep is the Ocean,” while the pair is joined by strings and woodwinds for a surprising take on Willie Nelson’s classic country hit “Crazy.” A two-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist, arranger, and producer, Bob James is recognized as one of the original founders of smooth jazz. Long revered in the hip-hop community, James’ compositions are among the most sampled songs in history. Nathan East was 16 years old when he went on the road with Barry White and has spent the last four decades playing with a who’s who of performers, including Quincy Jones, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Barbra Streisand, and Stevie Wonder. East performed on the 2014 Grammy Record of The Year, Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.” The New Cool is produced by Chris Gero, Bob James, and Nathan East. It comes on the heels of East’s Grammy-nominated solo debut, Nathan East, also released on Yamaha Entertainment Group.

Recorded: February 13–14, 1974, in Los Angeles, except track 4: January 30, 1974, in New York

The 1974 tour by Bob Dylan and the Band brought together two of the most-respected acts in rock history for what was one of the biggest concert events of the decade. Recorded at several different venues over the course of the two-month tour, „Before The Flood“ captures Dylan and The Band in fine form. Having backed Dylan on and off since 1966, The Band were very comfortable with his music, and on this album they provide Dylan with some of the finest accompaniment of his career.
Dylan opens the show with spirited versions of hits like "It Ain't Me Babe" and "Lay Lady Lay," as well as the acidic "Ballad of a Thin Man." Having fired up the crowd, Dylan steps away from the mike to let the Band perform barnstorming versions of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and other classics from their repertoire. After The Band nearly brings down the house with their intense rendition of "The Weight," Dylan returns to bring it all back home with powerful performances of "Like A Rolling Stone" and "Blowin' In The Wind," providing a spectacular finale to one of the finest live rock albums of the '70s.

Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber - Rosary Sonatas - Rachel Podger (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Сomposer: Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber (1644-1704)
Artist: Rachel Podger
Title: Biber - Rosary Sonatas
Genre: Classical
Label: © Channel Classics Records B.V.
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 02:13:22
Recorded: The Church of St. Jude-on-the-Hill, Hampstead, London, January 2015

Johann Kuhnau, Bach’s predecessor at Leipzig, composed biblical sonatas depicting stories – such as David and Goliath – in abstract, worldless, keyboard pieces. Biber’s Mystery Sonatas are quite different because they form part of a linked meditation on the life of Jesus and therefore present remarkable potential for the interpreter as a kind of ‘Evangelist’. Uniquely, these celebrated works employ fourteen different scordatura tunings where the altered intervals on the four strings create extraordinarily different ‘sound worlds’ to describe each event. Singers aside, performers are rarely presented with such heady subject matter to motivate their interpretations, apart from the usual movement titles indicating tempi, pulse and character.
Some pieces may have meaningful titles with a dedication, perhaps to another composer or friend, and we also come across specific instructions to ‘imitate’ various animals. For instance, Biber’s Battalia – a work which employs fashionable programmatic elements in the best traditions of a sonata rappresentativa) – portrays both the battle and the lament for the dead in a fashion which requires no further explanation. Likewise, in the case of C.P.E. Bach’s trio sonata Sanguineus and Melancholicus, a whole scene is described with meticulous and detailed instructions for expression, ranging from stubbornness and anger to laughter and ridicule, and even irony!

Ben Howard - Every Kingdom (2011) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/44.1kHz

Artist: Ben Howard
Title: Every Kingdom
Genre: Indie Rock, Indie Folk, Singer/Songwriter
Label: © Island Records
Release Date: 2011
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 44,1kHz/24bit

Duration: 50:08
Recorded: Assault And Battery Studios; The Premises Studio, London

Risking arriving a little too late to the party, Devon-born 23-year-old Ben Howard is yet another young troubadour whose sound appears indebted to the '70s pastoral folk of John Martyn and Nick Drake. His debut album, Every Kingdom, therefore, has its work cut out for it from the offset if it's to make itself heard above similar recent efforts by the likes of Marcus Foster and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. But it's clear from the opening track, "Old Pine," a slow-burning epic that begins with some hushed choral harmonies before building into a strident slice of nu-folk, that this is a more intriguing affair. Indeed, considering that much of the album features nothing more than Howard's intricate fingerpicking guitar skills with the occasional flourishes of cello and percussion, it's remarkable that it's only toward the closing minimal acoustic balladry of "Gracious" and "Promise" that the evocative autumnal vibes begin to lose their appeal. That's partly down to Howard's versatile and intense vocals, which manage to capture the understatement of José González, the gruffness of Ray LaMontagne, and the soulfulness of James Morrison, without ever sounding like a tribute act, and partly down to the inventiveness displayed throughout its ten tracks, whether it's the military beats, sea shanty melodies, and howling wolf calls on "The Wolves," the burst of grandiose post-rock that interrupts the somber breakup song "Black Flies," or the buoyant campfire singalong of "The Fear." It's not clear whether Howard's stripped-back approach will cross over to the mainstream, as other than "Keep Your Head Up," a slightly more energetic rebel-rousing slice of folk-pop that found its way onto the Radio 1 playlist, its charms are more slow-burning than immediate. But it's an impressively timeless debut that suggests Howard should have no problem standing out from the overpopulated nu-folk crowd. --AllMusic Review by Jon O'Brien
