Recorded: November 1983 – March 1984 at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec

Largely considered one of Rush’s darkest albums, the million-selling Grace Under Pressure was a response to growing tensions in the Cold War in the 1980s. The album’s running theme is “pressure” and how humans act under its influence. Despite the bleakness of the songs, the band balances elements of ska, funk and reggae and an increasing use of synthesizers and electronics with consistently strong songwriting and typical instrumental virtuosity.

Recorded: Recorded by Colin Elliot at Yellow Arch Studios, Sheffield and Shez Sheridan in Disgracelands, Sheffield. Track 8 recorded and mixed at Mu studios, The Laundry Rooms, Sheffield.

Following the success of his hugely acclaimed 2012 Top Three album, Standing At The Sky’s Edge, Richard Hawley will release his eighth studio album Hollow Meadows via Parlophone Records.
Recorded at Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studio in spring 2015, Hollow Meadows sees Hawley return to the classic, sophisticated songwriting and subtle arrangements that made him so widely loved and revered in the first place. Meditating on such themes as ageing, fallibility and relationships, much of the album shares a brooding, yet wistful and romantic atmosphere in keeping with early albums Late Night Final and Lowedges, as well as touches of 2009’s Truelove’s Gutter (‘Nothing Like A Friend’) and Standing At The Sky’s Edge (‘Which Way’, ‘Welcome The Sun’).
Hollow Meadows is an album full of exceptional songwriting, beautiful melodies and harmonies, and some of the finest lyrics and vocals Hawley as ever written and recorded. It will further cement his reputation as one of Britain’s greatest songwriters of the past 15 years.

Rachmaninov Variations - Daniil Trifonov (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Sergey Vasil'yevich Rachmaninov (1873-1943)
Artist: Daniil Trifonov
Title: Rachmaninov Variations
Genre: Classical
Label: © Deutsche Grammophon
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit

Duration: 01:19:43
Recorded: Academy of Arts & Letters, New York City, 3/2015 (Chopin & Corelli Variations, Rachmaniana); Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Verizon Hall, Philadelphia, 3/2015 (Rhapsody)

While Sergey Rachmaninov is justly celebrated for his piano concertos and symphonies, his sets of variations shouldn't be overlooked, for they are among his most inventive and satisfying works. Russian pianist Danil Trifonov plays the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, the Variations on a Theme of Chopin, and the Variations on a Theme of Corelli on this 2015 Deutsche Grammophon release, and he offers his own special tribute to the composer in his solo piano suite, Rachmaniana. For the Rhapsody, Trifonov is joined by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra, an ensemble that counts historic performances with Rachmaninov as part of its heritage, and plays with its characteristic lush sound and passionate expression. Trifonov is brilliant and precise in the Rhapsody, collaborating fully with the orchestra and sharing the spotlight as much as possible in such a showpiece. Yet in the solo variations, he is able to stretch out and demonstrate his gift for deeply expressive playing, as well as a talent for fantasy in his own composition. The reproduction throughout this CD is transparent and finely detailed, though the Rhapsody offers the most vibrant and spacious sound. --AllMusic Review by Blair Sanderson

Sergei Rachmaninov - Symphony No 3 / Mily Balakirev - Russia - London Symphony Orchestra, Valery Gergiev (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Sergei Rachmaninov (1873–1943), Mily Balakirev (1837–1910)
Artist: London Symphony Orchestra, Valery Gergiev
Title: Shostakovich - Symphony No. 5
Genre: Classical
Label: © LSO Live
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: hyperion-records.co.uk
Duration: 56 minutes 30 seconds
Recorded live in DSD 128fs at the Barbican, November 2014

Following acclaimed LSO Live recordings of Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 2 and Symphonic Dances, Valery Gergiev conducts a scintillating account of the powerfully emotional Third Symphony, framed with a work by one of the Mighty Five; Balakirev’s Russia.
Rachmaninov’s third and final symphony was composed nearly 20 years after the composer’s emigration from his homeland. Often considered to be his most overtly Russian symphony, Rachmaninov makes subtle use of a motto theme which appears throughout the work and can be heard in the finale as a variant of the Dies Irae plainchant – a melodic tag used in Rachmaninov’s music as a dark reminder of mortality.
Russia, the epic symphonic poem, is a reworking of an Overture on Russian Themes, collected during Balakirev’s expedition up through the Volga. It was composed in 1864 and is based on three folksongs – a slow wedding song and two round-dances which are varied, fragmented and combined throughout the piece.
