Femme Fatale is the seventh studio album by American recording artist Britney Spears. It was released on March 25, 2011, by Jive Records. Spears wanted to make a "fresh-sounding" and "fierce dance album", incorporating dance-pop and electropop styles with elements of dubstep, techno, and trance. She began working on the album during the second leg of The Circus Starring Britney Spears (2009), while also working on her second compilation album The Singles Collection (2009). Contributions to its production came from a variety of producers and songwriters, including long-time collaborator Max Martin in addition to Dr. Luke, William Orbit, Fraser T Smith, Rodney Jerkins, Bloodshy & Avant. will.i.am, and StarGate.

Upon its release, Femme Fatale received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented its production and dance-pop style, but noted Spears' supposed lack of involvement and heavily processed vocals. Some stated that Spears was no longer the center of the album and found a trade-off to be real personality. Ryan Tedder however, defended her, saying that Frank Sinatra and Garth Brooks were huge artists who didn't write most of their songs. The album debuted atop of the charts in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Russia, South Korea and the United States, and peaking inside the top ten in twenty-four countries. In the United States, she earned her sixth number one album.

Four singles were released from the album. It became Spears's first album to have three top 10 singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, with "Hold It Against Me", "Till the World Ends", and "I Wanna Go" peaking at numbers one, three, and seven, respectively. The fourth and final single "Criminal" peaked at number one in Brazil and in the top twenty in five countries. Spears promoted the album with television performances, the Femme Fatale Tour, and collaborations with Kesha, Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker, and Rihanna.

Circus is the sixth studio album by American recording artist Britney Spears. It was released on November 28, 2008, by Jive Records. Looking to transition from her "darker and more urban" fifth studio album Blackout (2007), Spears wanted to make her next project "a little bit lighter", incorporating electropop and dance-pop styles. Spears recorded the record during the summer of 2008, after her much-publicized personal struggles saw her placement under a temporary conservatorship earlier that year. As executive producers, Larry Rudolph and Teresa LaBarbera Whites enlisted collaborators including Spears' longtime colleague Max Martin and Nate "Danja" Hills.

Upon its release, Circus received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented its production but were ambivalent towards its lyrical content. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of over 505,000 copies, making it her fifth album to reach the top of the chart. The album topped charts in nine additional countries. The record eventually exceeded sales of 4 million copies and 15 million digital tracks, in doing so it became Spears' best-selling album since her fourth studio album In the Zone (2003). The project was promoted through a series of television performances and Spears' fifth concert tour The Circus Starring Britney Spears. The latter generated controversy during the Australian leg after accusations of lip-syncing surfaced.

Four singles were released from the album, two of which became international successes. Its lead single "Womanizer" peaked atop the US Billboard Hot 100 and registered as the largest jump to the top of the chart after debuting at number ninety-six. It became Spears's best-selling song in the country since "...Baby One More Time", and gained a Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. The second and third singles "Circus" and "If U Seek Amy" peaked at numbers three and nineteen in the country, respectively. Consequentially, Circus became Spears's second album after her debut effort ...Baby One More Time (1999) to have two top ten singles three top-twenty hits, being her first to have two top five hits in the United States along with five charting songs on the Hot 100.

‘Of Beethoven and his worlds in music, some will remember more the herald of pure music or of programme music, the Dionysian bearer of joy, or the man suffering from suicidal impulses, the builder or the destroyer. In any event, the creator stopped writing piano sonatas in 1822, the year of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s death. All the transgressions that are propounded by Beethoven’s Promethean output would be unable to conceal his faithfulness to the ideals of Aufklärung, his classic desire to lead, beyond the asperities, to a resolution and, beyond darkness, to light.’ --Brigitte François Sappey
Eric Le Sage approaches this cycle with the sensitive vision of a great interpreter, henceforth renowned for his complete Schumann and Fauré recordings.
