Recorded: 1975-1978

Collecting the bracing and brilliant Pere Ubu in their earliest incarnation, with the devastating one-two knockout blow of 1978 studio bookends "The Modern Dance" and "Dub Housing", followed by "The Hearpen Singles (1975-1977)" and a red hot live set "Manhattan", recorded at the legendary Max's Kansas City in 1977; "Elitism For The People 1975-78" serves as a gut punch. As vital as ever, no band before or since has ever sounded like Pere Ubu - period.
Working from the original 2-track analogue mix tapes, Paul Hamann at Suma transferred to digital at the highest resolution available, at least four times the resolution of CD audio. Then, the tracks were carefully re-mastered by sonic architect Brian Pyle so as to capture the unique qualities within; the resulting listening experience is truly mind-blowing.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – JULY 30TH, 2015 - MPL and the Concord Music Group are proud to announce two more landmark installments in the multiple GRAMMY-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection. On October 2, 2015, Paul’s early ‘80s back-to-back classics Tug of War and Pipes of Peace will receive lavish multiple configuration reissue treatment including exclusive 2015 remixes of both the entire Tug of War album and the Pipes of Peace classic collaboration with Michael Jackson “Say Say Say,” a treasure trove of previously unreleased tracks and never before seen video, and much more.
Released in 1982, Tug of War was Paul’s first album following the break-up of Wings and his third solo LP overall. Hailed upon its release as “exquisitely crafted” by The New York Times and a “masterpiece” by Rolling Stone, Tug of War went to #1 in no less than nine countries. Tug of War yielded such classic tracks as Paul’s #1 duet with Stevie Wonder “Ebony and Ivory,” the top 10 single “Take It Away,” and of course “Here Today,” the conversation Paul never had with the late John Lennon that remains a staple of Paul’s live set to this day. Pipes of Peace, Paul’s fourth solo album, followed in 1983 and continued Paul’s early '80s run of platinum records. Singles from Pipes of Peace included the title track and of course Paul and Michael Jackson’s timeless “Say Say Say,” a multi-format global chart-topping smash continually cited as a landmark of that or any year--as recently as 2007, Vibe magazine rated “Say Say Say” as one of the greatest duets of all time.

Patti Smith - Horses (1975/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

#44 on Rolling Stones' "500 Greatest Albums of All Time"

With the exception of Bob Dylan, few rock n' rollers explored poetry within the rock format as thoroughly as Patti Smith. By the mid-70's, Smith had been a regular poetry-reader in New York City clubs for years, and with a deep admiration for The Rolling Stones, it was only natural to set these poems to music. With an exciting rock band to back her up (including renowned music critic Lenny Kaye on guitar), Smith built up a following on the strength of the band's trance-inducing live shows and her thrillingly liberated vocal style, which built on Dylan's mid '60s expressiveness with ecstatic, octave-jumping yelps.
Produced by ex-Velvet Underground bassist John Cale, „Horses“ was considered 'punk rock' when it was first released, but there was much more to it. Smith had a gift for being able to paint vivid pictures with her prose, as evidenced by a pair of 10-minute long epics, 'Birdland' and 'Land' (which consisted of 3 sections--'Horses,' 'Land of A Thousand Dances,' and 'La Mer'). Other tracks are more conventional, yet just as gripping--a cover of 'Gloria,' 'Free Money,' and 'Kimberly,“. „Horses“ is a classic.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Piano Trios - Anne-Sophie Mutter, Daniel Muller-Schott, Andre Previn (2006/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 - 1791)
Artist: Anne-Sophie Mutter, Daniel Muller-Schott, André Previn
Title: Mozart - Piano Trios
Genre: Classical
Label: © Deutsche Grammophon
Release Date: 2006/2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 01:01:17
Recorded: Baden-Baden, Festspielhaus, 05/2005

In 2006, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth plus the 30th anniversary of Anne-Sophie Mutter's public debut, Deutsche Grammophon released new recordings of the German violinist in all the Austrian composer's major works featuring her instrument. To celebrate Mutter's undeniable beauty, each body of works was released with a different photograph of Mutter on the cover: the set of concertos had Mutter poured into a stunning bottle green mermaid gown, the set of sonatas had Mutter wrapped in a shimmering golden yellow strapless gown, and this set of the piano trios has Mutter's wonderfully made-up face and marvelously coifed hair in close-up. And just as no one but a blind man would deny Mutter's beauty, no one but a deaf man would deny Mutter's standing as one of the great violinists of her age with flawless intonation, faultless technique, a sensual tone, and a warmly romantic interpretive style. Of course, some might say that a warmly romantic interpretive style is out of place in the transcendently elegant works of Mozart. Others might point out that Mutter plays with impeccable taste and consummate control in these three late piano trios, but even they might concede that her performances are perhaps too sweet and possibly too ardent for the sublimely graceful Mozart. Cellist Daniel Müller-Schott and pianist André Previn are united behind Mutter and their performance is as one with Mutter in style and approach. For some, this disc will be a lovely addition to their Mutter collection. For others, the classic recording by the Beaux Arts Trio may seem closer to the classical style of the music. DG's sound is very flattering to Mutter, but puts Müller-Schott and Previn a bit too far in the background. --AllMusic Review by James Leonard

Claudio Monteverdi - Vespro della Beata Vergine - L'Arpeggiata, Christina Pluhar (2011) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/44.1kHz

Сomposer: Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)
Artist: L'Arpeggiata, Christina Pluhar
Title: Monteverdi - Vespro della Beata Vergine (1610)
Genre: Classical, Choral
Label: © EMI Records Ltd./Virgin Classics
Release Date: 2011
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 44,1kHz/24bit

Duration: 01:14:57
Recorded: 15-22 April 2010 at the Metz Arsenal

L’Arpeggiata, the multi-faceted ensemble led by Christina Pluhar, celebrates its 10th birthday by marking the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s Vespro della beata vergine, one of the supreme masterpieces of music history. As Pluhar explains: “All 30 singers and instrumentalists on our recording have had a long and emotional relationship with this work.”
2010 marked the 400th anniversary of one of the landmarks of musical history, Monteverdi’s Vespro della beata Vergine, better known simply as the Vespers. Exactly 50 times younger is the multi-faceted vocal and instrumental ensemble L’Arpeggiata, founded 10 years ago by Christina Pluhar. Pluhar’s achievement was recognised in 2009 with Germany’s prestigious Echo Klassik award for L’Arpeggiata’s first Virgin Classics release, Teatro d’Amore, which presented a diverse, improvisational programme of items by Monteverdi. Here, Pluhar and her musicians engage more formally with an extended work by the same composer.
“The Vespers is one of the supreme masterpieces of music history,” says Pluhar. “Monteverdi exploits all the skills and compositional techniques that existed at the time. All 30 singers and instrumentalists on our recording have had a long and emotional relationship with this work and were very excited by creating this recording with L'Arpeggiata. Over the last 25 years, the approach to performing the Vespers has changed considerably, and hopefully l'Arpeggiata's version will make its mark."
This Vespers is the fruit of L’Arpeggiata's collaboration with the Festival de Música Antiga de Barcelona, De Bijloke music centre in Ghent and L’Arsenal concert hall in Metz in eastern France, which, with its much-praised acoustic, was the venue for recording the work. L’Arpeggiata was in residence at L’Arsenal over the 2009-10 season.
“We have taken an intimate approach: the way the music is written suggests not a choir, but a single voice for each line,” explains Pluhar. “It is always very important for me to work with voices that I feel match the colours in the music, and I have made different choices for each section of the Vespers.” Notably, the often low-lying alto parts were shared between mezzo-sopranos, countertenors and high tenors. “The twelve singers on this recording all have wonderful voices and are astounding soloists who bring both tonal beauty and a strong theatrical presence. I gave them a lot of responsibility in the ensemble work, which I feel brings us closer to spirit of the original performances. Polyphony for six or ten solo voices does not need too much intervention from a conductor in a classical sense.”
Pluhar herself plays the theorbo in this recording, and L’Arpeggiata’s famed improvisational skills are brought to new heights in the spectacular ornamentation by the cornetti and violins. Again inspired by the music’s colours, Pluhar’s chosen instrumentation includes two organs for the sections with double choir, and features the psaltery; its timbre is closely linked with L’Arpeggiata’s soundworld and Pluhar feels it evokes archaic scenes at moments in the score.
“The texts are certainly diverse … there is the purity of the Magnificat or the erotic charge of Nigra sum from the Song of Songs, and then there is the more assertive spirit of the Dixit Dominus ... We cannot be sure whether Monteverdi conceived the Vespers as a single work or as a series of separate motets, but nevertheless there is a magic in the construction of this piece, which leaves me personally in no doubt that Monteverdi ingeniously conceived the work as a unity, both musically and theatrically.”
L’Arpeggiata’s success in capturing every aspect of the Vespers was recognised by the Metz newspaper Le Républicain Lorrain: “L’Arpeggiata intrepidly tackles this complex architecture with both monastic rigour and unprecedented flamboyance, with unrivalled instrumental and vocal virtuosity … [The] validity of the tempos is always in evidence, robust and explosive. Above all, the vocal declamation is genuine. Immediately striking is the special timbre of the male singers … whose voices shoot up … like the pillars of a cathedral … as they deploy their vocal substance, and, through their projection, suggest an operatic instrument which has accommodated to baroque style.
“… The melodiously rounded sound of the three sopranos and the mezzo, with their sensitive coloratura, naturally reflects the virginal spirit of the Vespers … As for the orchestra, the cornetts assert their presence to fabulous effect, and the natural trombones are brilliantly brassy, while the theorbos, archlute and harp provide limpid tracery. Passion, and then jubilation grow from the Lauda Jerusalem to the Ave Maris Stella, sung in a prayerful voice, to the sublime Magnificat, in which the voices and the wind instruments glow into flame. All in all, a conception that is both cloistered and profane.”

Matt Nathanson - Show Me Your Fangs (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Matt Nathanson
Title: Show Me Your Fangs
Genre: Pop Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Alternative/Indie Rock
Label: © Vanguard Records/Concord Music Group
Release Date: 2015

Recorded: Decibelle Recording, San Francisco, CA; Tiny Telephone Studios, San Francisco, CA; Jerry Becker Mobile Recording, Atlanta, GA & Toronto, ON

Matt Nathanson’s new album Show Me Your Fangs – his tenth studio recording – delves deeper and further into the complexities and observations of everyday life than any of his previous albums. Songs such as “Giants,” “Bill Murray,”
“Adrenaline,” “Washington State Fight Song,” and the title track tell vivid stories touching on the overall theme of self-identity and how we choose to reveal ourselves. These vignettes are all offered wrapped in richer, musical textures with Nathanson’s signature seductive hooks. In as much as these songs have a solemn message, leave it to Nathanson to offer the perfect counter balance with the album’s new single “Gold In The Summertime” with its sultry ‘70s soul groove.
Show Me Your Fangs will be released October 2nd on Vanguard Records but starting tomorrow, July 31st, fans can pre-order the album via iTunes and www.mattnathanson.com and instantly receive a download of “Giants.”
To celebrate the release of Show Me Your Fangs, Matt Nathanson will kick off an acoustic North American fall tour beginning September 28th in Boston, MA through October 30th in San Diego, CA. Full list of tour dates below. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 31st and each ticket purchased will include a download of Show Me Your Fangs upon release.
Matt shares, “I’m heading out on a super intimate, acoustic North American club tour this fall. After the last few summers of playing big places (which has ruled, btw), and bashing it out with electric guitars, I’ve been missing just playing acoustic guitar and telling stories. So, I’m leaving the rhythm section at home and Aaron [Tap] and I are gonna bust out for the month of October, troubadour-style.”

Los Lobos - Gates Of Gold (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/88.2kHz

Artist: Los Lobos
Title: Gates Of Gold
Genre: Rock, Americana, Roots Rock, Heartland Rock, Chicano Rock, Latin Rock, Tex-Mex
Label: © 429 Records/The Savoy Label Group
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 88,2kHz/24bit

Duration: 42:50

Los Lobos were already East L.A. neighborhood legends, Sunset Strip regulars and a Grammy Award winning band (Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance) by the time they recorded their major label debut How Will The Wolf Survive? in 1984.
Although the album’s name and title song were inspired by a National Geographic article about real life wolves in the wild, the band—David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin—saw parallels with their struggle to gain mainstream rock success while maintaining their Mexican roots. Perez, the band’s drummer, once called their powerhouse mix of rock, Tex-Mex, country, folk, R&B, blues and traditional Spanish and Mexican music “the soundtrack of the barrio.” Three decades, two more Grammys, a worldwide smash single (“La Bamba”) and thousands of rollicking performances across the globe later, Los Lobos is surviving quite well -- and still jamming with the same raw intensity as they had when they began in that garage in 1973.
Gates of Gold, the band’s new studio album on Savoy / 429 Records, their first in five years, is an American saga in the rich literary tradition of Steinbeck or Faulkner. Uplifting, hopeful and whimsical, the music touches their diverse musical potpourri, evidenced by the title track, “Mis-Treater Boogie Blues,” “Poquito Para Aqui.”
Produced by Los Lobos, Gates of Gold will be released on September 25th, the night the band will perform at The Beacon Theater in New York City’s Upper West Side. A full national tour will be underway with stops in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, and Nashville.
Gates of Gold follows Disconnected In New York City, a dynamic live album that marked the band’s 40th anniversary and launched their new association with 429 Records.
