The Gürzenich-Orchester of Cologne has a pedigree second to none—counting Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss among those who have entrusted it with premieres of their works—and when you hear this new recording the reasons for this are clear. Devastating brass combines with mellifluous winds and strings in a performance of Schoenberg’s late Romantic masterpiece. Steve Davis - Say When (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Steve Davis
Title: Say When
Genre: Jazz, Post-Bop, Straight-Ahead Jazz
Label: © Smoke Sessions Records
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: HDTracks
Duration: 01:08:03
Recorded: December 1, 2014

Steve Davis, one of the most beloved trombonists in modern jazz, first dreamed of recording the music of J.J. Johnson some 20 years ago. “Something kept telling me— just wait, just wait.” he says, “Then finally, a year and a half ago, I did the first J.J. weekend at Smoke with this sextet and I finally realized I think I’m ready.” During those 20+ years, Davis was doing a little more than simply waiting, he was busy establishing himself as a worthy heir to his idols: J.J., Curtis Fuller and Slide Hampton. Along the way, he worked with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, the Jackie McLean Sextet, Chick Corea’s Origin, Benny Golson’s New Jazztet, Horace Silver, Hank Jones, Larry Willis, One for All, Freddie Hubbard and the New Jazz Composer’s Octet, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars, as well as the big bands of Christian McBride, Ron Carter, Jimmy Heath and Roy Hargrove. He’s earned the highest praise, too, such as Freddie Hubbard calling him “one of the greatest trombone players in the world,” James Moody commenting that “his solos never cease to amaze me,” and Chick Corea saying that he plays “some of the most melodic improvisations ever heard in jazz.” For Say When, he’s enlisted the support of the very best—Eddie Henderson, Eric Alexander, Harold Mabern, Nat Reeves and Joe Farnsworth—to breathe new life into six Johnson compositional gems, as well as Cole Porter’s classic “What Is This Thing Called Love,” Warren and Gordon’s “There Will Never Be Another You” and Coltrane’s “Village Blues.” It concludes with a surprising rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In” that Davis vividly remembers hearing J.J. perform late in his career. It’s just another reason that Will Friedwald wrote in the Wall Street Journal, “The highly respected contemporary trombonist Steve Davis is a perfect bandleader to present the vast riches of (J.J.) Johnson.” Say When is available for purchase as an 8-panel deluxe CD album complete with 2,000-word artist interview and additional photos, as a Mastered for iTunes download with digital booklet, or as an audiophile 96khz/24bit digital download.

Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev - Piano Concertos - Behzod Abduraimov, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Juraj Valcuha (2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Sergey Prokofiev (1891–1953), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893)
Artist: Behzod Abduraimov, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Juraj Valcuha
Title: Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev - Piano Concertos
Genre: Classical
Label: © Decca is a Universal Music Company
Release Date: 2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 01:04:17
Recorded: July 10-12, 2013 at the Auditorium RAI "A. Toscanini" in Torino, Italy.

Completed in 1921 in a rural summer retreat at Étretat on the coast of Normandy, the Third Piano Concerto nevertheless contains not a hint of anything that could be called pastoral. It is one of those works that seem to reflect not the actual surroundings of the moment, but a quite other environment that the composer is hankering after. The atmosphere it breathes is of a world that Prokofiev had left only temporarily: the world of musical centres, busy concert life, excitement, exuberant virtuosity, and applause.
The First Piano Concerto is one of the most popular of all Tchaikovsky’s works, to the extent that it has completely eclipsed the other two concertos for piano. A skillful mixture of ardour and melancholy, of simple Ukrainian folk tunes and brilliant passage work, of wistful melodies and waves of orchestral sound worthy of a symphony. One might criticize it for an excess of grandiloquence, but one cannot deny its success in at least two respects: the variety of its inspiration and the verve of the piano part, which guarantees an instant triumph to any virtuoso capable of playing it.

Vanessa Benelli Mosell - [R]evolution (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Сomposer: Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928 - 2007), Karol Beffa (1973 - ), Igor Fyodorovich Stravinsky (1882 - 1971)
Artist: Vanessa Benelli Mosell
Title: [R]evolution
Genre: Classical
Label: © Decca is a Universal Music Company
Release Date: 2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:58:02
Recorded: February, June 2014

[R]evolution celebrates the Decca debut for Italian pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell and is a tribute to the music of the twentieth century.
When was the last time you heard any Stockhausen? Since his death, at the end of 2007, the German avant-gardist's star has fallen in a reverse curve to that of his French comrade, Pierre Boulez. Hardly any Stockhausen is being recorded these days, and there are few concerts where the music can be heard. So an album by a young pianist who worked with the composer in his final years is a welcome opportunity to revisit a brave old world that has virtually vanished.
And it’s not hard to see why. Stockhausen’s 8 Klavierstücke (piano pieces), written between 1952 and 1961 as the composer was making his mark, are the kind of stuff that gave the avant-garde a bad name for random plinky-plonks and unprovoked violence. Vanessa Benelli Mosell makes the eight morsels sound reasonably structured and almost musical at times, but the grim austerity of Stockhausen’s sound world simply cannot be dispelled and the ear is grateful for every silence it can grab.

Refused - Freedom (2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/44.1kHz

Artist: Refused

Recorded: October 2014, Seedy Underbelly, LA; February 2015, Decibel Studios/mxm Studios, Stockholm

Refused are fucking alive. There's no escape. The Iconic Swedish hardcore band have released Freedom their first new album in 17 years.
In 1998 Refused released their iconic album The Shape of Punk to Come. It was also the year that the band broke up and declared "Refused Are Fucking Dead". Fourteen years later, the band reignited in 2012 for a Coachella performance. The group started contemplating new music within the first four months of the reunion tour, a process greatly aided by the fact that drummer David Sandström, guitarist Kristofer Steen, and bassist Magnus Flagge had already been writing together informally for several years under the auspices of a new, vocal-less band.
Freedom explodes out of the speakers with opening track “Elektra,” as Lyxzén throat-shredding declaration that “nothing has changed” catapults Refused into the 21st century. Production for Freedom was overseen by Nick Launay (Gang Of Four, Public Image Ltd., Nick Cave, and Arcade Fire. “Elektra” and “366” were produced and co-written by fellow Swede and longtime Refused fan Shellback, who has scored eight No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with artists such as Taylor Swift and Pink.
