Aerosmith - Aerosmith's Greatest Hits (1980/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Aerosmith
Title: Aerosmith's Greatest Hits
Genre: Rock, hard rock, blues rock
Label: © Columbia Records
Release Date: 1980/2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:41:06
Recorded: 1972 at Intermedia Studios, Boston, Massachusetts; 1973–1977 and 1979 at Record Plant Studios, New York City, New York; February–March 1976 and August 1978 at the Wherehouse, Waltham, Massachusetts; June–October 1977 at the Cenacle, Armonk, New York; 1979 at Media Sound, New York City, New York

Aerosmith's Greatest Hits remains one of the most popular and enduring best-of collections by any rock band, selling nearly ten million copies in the U.S. alone since its release. But when it was issued in 1980, the band had just about reached its nadir. With original guitarist Joe Perry gone (and Brad Whitford soon to follow), Aerosmith had turned into a directionless, time-consuming ghost of its former self. Since there would be a three-year gap between 1979's Night in the Ruts and 1982's Rock in a Hard Place, Greatest Hits was assembled, more or less, to fill the void and buy the band some time. With the album clocking in at only 37 and a half minutes, many Aerosmith classics are not included, such as what many consider the band's quintessential track, their cover of "Train Kept a Rollin'." The only poor selection is the forgettable "Remember (Walking in the Sand)," but nine out of ten are bona fide classics -- "Dream On," "Same Old Song and Dance," "Sweet Emotion," "Walk this Way," "Last Child," "Back in the Saddle," and "Draw the Line." Also featured is their venomous cover of the Beatles' "Come Together," previously only available as a single and on the soundtrack to the 1978 movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. For the casual fan, Greatest Hits will do the job, as well as its sister album, 1988's Gems. --Greg Prato

Antonin Dvorak: Requiem, Op. 89 (2014) [High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray Disc]

Title: Antonín Dvořák: Requiem, Op. 89
Released: 2014
Genre: Classical
Conductor: Antoni Wit
Artist: Christiane Libor (Soprano), Ewa Wolak (Alto), Daniel Kirch (Tenor), Janusz Monarcha (Bass), Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir

Issued: United States | Naxos
Duration: 1:37:48
Size: 11.44 GB

Antonín Dvořák’s huge popularity in England was built largely on the success of his Stabat Mater, which he had conducted there in 1884 and 1885. It was well suited to the country’s choral traditions and led eventually to a commission for a Requiem, which was premièred in Birmingham in 1891. Written in ten months during tours to Russia, England and Germany, its success was immediate. Sitting closer to the tradition of Cherubini than Verdi, its tone is compassionate and reflective, devoid of unnecessary drama, and movingly crafted with great sophistication.
Recorded: Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw, Poland, from 29th May to 5th June, 2012.

Johannes Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem (2012) [High Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray Disc]

Name: Johannes Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem
Released: 2012
Genre: Classical
Conductor: Antoni Wit
Artist: Christiane Libor, Soprano (# 5), Thomas E. Bauer, Baritone (# 3, 6), Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir

Issued: United States | Naxos
Duration: 1:15:16
Size: 8.84 GB

The longest work in Brahms’s entire oeuvre, A German Requiem was almost certainly triggered by the death of his mother, although it also seems likely that the tragic loss of his friend Robert Schumann, some years earlier, added to its depth and eloquence. Taking inspiration from Bach’s contrapuntal genius but avoiding overt religious tradition, Brahms chose the texts himself, placing an emphasis on an affirmation of life with the suggestion that he would gladly have substituted ‘human’ for ‘German’ in the title.

Recorded: Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw, Poland, from 27th to 29th August, 2012.

Recording: in Badia Cavana (Abbazia di San Basilide), Italy, on 18-20 June 2014

Since the early 1990s, Antonio Vivaldi and Fabio Biondi have become inseparable. In his latest recording for Glossa, the latter offers further proof of the astonishing imaginative powers of Vivaldi as a composer of violin concertos, which are matched by Biondi’s own dynamic and cultured virtuosity as violinist (and director). With these 'Farewell' Concertos Biondi turns to works written by a Vivaldi very near the end of his life as he travelled to Vienna in a desperate search for creative opportunities.
Where Biondi’s recent 'Il Diario di Chiara' release saw a late Vivaldi surrounded by colleagues and successors at the Pietà in Venice, 'I concerti dell’addio' sees him in a Vienna in mourning for its recently-deceased emperor and more attuned to the now-fashionable galante style than to that of the Red Priest, however brilliant and ebullient Vivaldi’s compositional spirit continued to be.
The six concertos on this disc are all drawn from a collection sold in 1741 – very cheaply it seems to the count Vinciguerra Collalto - today kept in Brno, and bear witness to Vivaldi’s late style as it headed in the direction of Tartini and Locatelli.
Biondi’s selection of concertos provides him full scope to portray the vivid and masterfully-conceived imagery, a compendium of violin techniques and the opportunities for improvisation implicit in Vivaldi’s maturity.

Duration: 65 minutes 6 seconds
Recorded: April 2013, deSingel, Antwerp, Belgium

Hyperion’s blossoming Romantic Cello Concerto series welcomes back German virtuoso Alban Gerhardt for this sixth volume. Henry Vieuxtemps and Eugène Ysaÿe are of course best known for their blistering pyrotechnics on the violin, but each of this eminent teacher-and-pupil pairing also wrote two works—little known today, alas—for cello and orchestra, and what a revelation they are. The two Vieuxtemps Concertos contain all the elements familiar from their famous violin counterparts—long-arched melodies alongside moments of outrageous virtuoso demands. The Ysaÿe works are shorter and make ideal companions.
Gerhardt rises to the formidable challenges presented by these composers. Sympathetic orchestral support comes from the Royal Flemish Philharmonic (compatriots of the two composers) and Josep Caballé-Domenech, making his Hyperion conducting debut.

Cutting-edge pianist meets trendsetting composer: Valentina Lisitsa, whose artistry has bewitched audiences around the world, is releasing a double album selection of works for solo piano by Philip Glass, whose brand of minimalism has made him one of the most influential composers of our time. Valentina Lisitsa plays Philip Glass (Decca) is a stunning collection of Glass’s piano works, performed by Lisitsa with the grace and understanding of a true minimalist interpreter.
Music on the album includes tracks from Stephen Daldry’s BAFTA-winning and Academy Award-nominated film The Hours, using the building blocks of minimalism to achieve a huge, inventive soundscape of musical richness and contrasts. The most substantial piece in the collection is the mesmerising 30-minute How Now, one of the first compositions written for the Philip Glass Ensemble in 1968. Also featured is Metamorphosis, a five-movement work of music for a theatrical adaptation of Kafka’s play of the same name. Other works featured include the iconic Mad Rush, which Glass performed at the first public appearance of the 14th Dalai Lama in New York City in 1981 and Mishima / Closing, part of the soundtrack to the 1985 film Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters.
Richly harmonic, this collection of definitive Glass is a deeply evocative listening experience, with revelatory performances from Lisitsa. She captures the essential beauty in Glass’s circular melodies and the drama he infuses into his minimalistic approach.
