Batik has composed and improvised a dramatic story telling SoundScape around the key elements of the novel. You can read the novella on line here, it is a unique experience reading the book and hearing the gorgeous Batik compositions at the same time:
Like the famous fabric from the Far East the music of Batik consist of multicolored lines creating fascinating patterns, blending traditional forms with new ideas and letting spontaneous interaction merge the elements into a very original sound. BATIK is the latest brainchild of Wolfert Brederode (ECM recording artist) and Joost Lijbaart (Yuri Honing). With guitarist Ed Verhoeff and bass guitarist Mark Haanstra (two of the most in demand musicians on the European scene) they have formed a quartet capable of visual and inventive music making.

Bartlomiej Pekiel - Messes, Motets - The Sixteen, Eamonn Dougan (2013) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Label: © The Sixteen Productions

Recorded: St Silas the Martyr, Kentish Town, London, October 2012

Bartłomiej Pękiel was one of the most eminent Polish composers of choral music of the 17th century. He served at the court in Warsaw from around 1633 and was assistant to Marco Scacchi at the Chapel Royal in Warsaw before becoming Kapellmeister himself from 1645-1655 - the first non-Italian to hold the post. He then moved to Wawel Cathedral in Krakow where he wrote for the Rorantist vocal ensemble.

Just 29 of his compositions survive today and on this new album by The Sixteen under the direction of Associate Conductor, Eamonn Dougan, we present 11 of his works for choir and orchestra including the Missa Concertata La Lombardesca resplendent with double choir, violins and trombones, and the extraordinary and dramatic Audite mortales.

In this recording dedicated solely to his works, Pękiel shows himself to be a skilled craftsman, mastering the techniques taught by the Italian maestri, but also imbuing his works with his own particular harmonic colour in all the varied styles he writes in.

For the 2xHD transfer of this recording, the original 1/4”, 15 ips CCIR master tape was played on a NAGRA IV-S Tape recorder – the same model as used in the original recording – with a pair of Dolby 361, using a hi-end tube preamplifier with OCC silver cables. We did an analog transfer for each HiRez sampling and A & B comparisons were made with both the original LP, using the Kronos turntable, as well as with the best available CD, using the Nagra HDDac and dCS Vivaldi DAC, throughout the process. 192kHz was done using Ayre QA9pro.

Jazz at the Pawnshop is a multi-session recording made by Gert Palmcrantz on December 6-7, 1976, at Jazzpuben Stampen (Pawnshop) in Stockholm, Sweden. A pawnshop had operated on the site prior to the jazz club. Proprius Records founder Jacob Boethius produced the album, and it has been issued at least five times under multiple labels and formats. The main show on this Blu-Ray was filmed in high definition at the 2004 festival and captures Phil performing all of his best known hits from his solo career. The bonus material is a performance by the Phil Collins Big Band at Montreux in 1996. This is the first time any of Phil’s big band material has been made available. This combination of all his classic songs coupled with the rarely seen big band material shows the breadth of musical genres Phil has covered in his career and makes a perfect celebration of Phil Collins association with Montreux.

• Formed in the college town of Umeå in northern Sweden in 1987, MESHUGGAH have spent the last twenty seven years and cumulative fourteen releases developing, exploring, and redefining their complex, inimitable approach on the art of expressing the music they hear in their heads. A group that has not sounded like anyone else in over two decades, MESHUGGAH are one of the few purely and honestly lateral-thinking forces, genuinely dedicated to pushing the boundaries of extreme music, simply because doing so comes naturally to them.
• Celebrating over a quarter of a century as one of the spearheads of their genre, MESHUGGAH are now treating their fans to the release of a new DVD entitled »The Ophidian Trek«. This audio-visual encounter contains a full MESHUGGAH live show, recorded on May 03, 2013 at their co-headline show alongside DEVIN TOWNSEND at Brixton Academy, London.
• The thirteen tracks on »The Ophidian Trek« represent a great retrospective of MESHUGGAH’s fulminant carrier.Kicking off the show with ‘Swarm’, just one of many from their most recent album »Koloss« (2012), going back to »ObZen« (2008) with songs like ‘Lethargica’ and ‘Bleed’ and all the way to the very early days of »Chaosphere« (1998) with the track ‘New Millenium Cynadie Christ’.

Tom Petty - Wildflowers (1994/2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: Tom Petty
Title: Wildflowers
Genre: Rock, Heartland Rock, Rock & Roll
Label: © Warner Bros. Records
Release Date: 1994/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: PonoMusic
Duration: 01:02:36
Recorded: 1992–94 in Los Angeles, CA at Sound City and Ocean Way Recording

Wildflowers is the second solo album by American musician Tom Petty, released on the first of November, 1994. The album was the first released by Petty after signing a contract with Warner Bros. Records (where he had recorded as part of the Traveling Wilburys) and the first of three albums produced by Rick Rubin.
Three singles were released from the album between 1994 and 1995, the most successful of which, "You Don't Know How It Feels", reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Album Rock Tracks chart for one week.
The album features all members of the Heartbreakers with the exception of drummer Stan Lynch. Steve Ferrone plays drums on Wildflowers and would join the band officially the following year. However, the album was not credited to the Heartbreakers because, in Petty's words, "Rick (Rubin) and I both wanted more freedom than to be strapped into five guys."[8] Freedom notwithstanding, Petty chose to use most of his regular band as session players, demonstrating his comfort with that format. Rolling Stone placed Wildflowers at number twelve on their list of the best albums of the nineties. Guitar World placed the album at number 49 in their "Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994" list.

The Who - Who Are You (1978/2014) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/96kHz

Artist: The Who
Title: Who Are You
Genre: Rock
Label: © Geffen Records
Release Date: 1978/2014
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 96kHz/24bit
Source: HDTracks
Duration: 59:01
Recorded: October 1977 – April 1978 Ramport Studios, Battersea; Olympic Studios; RAK Studios, St John's Wood and Pete Townshend's own studio in Goring-on-Thames

By the end of the '70s, the original version of the Who was reaching the end of its tether (Keith Moon was nearing the end of his life). „Who Are You“ can be seen as something of a swan song for the spirit that ignited the rock & roll juggernaut that was the Who in its prime. The increased prominence of synthesizers here (the electronic flavoring of the title track recalls 'Baba O'Riley') points towards the direction the post-Moon '80s version of the band would take. Instead of casting aspersions on socio-political ills, Townshend was casting glances askance at current musical trends ('Sister Disco') and his own occupation ('Guitar and Pen'). Entwistle's bass still rumbles melodically through the tunes in the grand style, and Daltrey's wounded-beast roar is at its most impassioned on such songs as 'Had Enough.' The end of an era was just around the corner, but the band blazed away regardless, making WHO ARE YOU the last must-have Who album.
'Music must change,' sings The Who in the song of the same name, and yet it is ironic that while the mainstream of rock is moving toward a harder sound, The Who, considered the quintessential hard rock band, has chosen to sweeten its mix with strings and synthesizers in this, the band's first LP in over three years. Nevertheless the LP is unmistakably The Who. As so often in the past, this LP reflects Peter Townshend's preoccupation with the state of current pop culture and his and the band's place in it. Side One is the softer side with the band rocking a bit more on the flip side. Despite the strings and synthesizers, the arrangements are always spare and to the point, with flashes of old power and moments of instrumental brilliance belying any thought the band may be past its peak. The title song is a pop masterpiece. Best cuts: 'Who Are You,' 'Guitar And Pen,' 'Sister Disco,' 'Love Is Coming Down.' (Billboard)
