Robert Cray - Strong Persuader (1986/2015) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/192kHz

Artist: Robert Cray
Title: Strong Persuader
Genre: Blues Rock, Modern Electric Blues, Soul Blues
Label: © Mercury Records
Release Date: 1986/2015
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 192kHz/24bit
Source: Qobuz
Duration: 00:39:15
Recorded: Sage & Sound, Los Angeles; Haywood's, Los Angeles

#42 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 80's

The set that made Cray a pop star, despite its enduring blues base. Cray's smoldering stance on "Smoking Gun" and "Right Next Door" rendered him the first sex symbol to emerge from the blues field in decades, but it was his innovative expansion of the genre itself that makes this album a genuine 1980s classic. "Nothing but a Woman" boasts an irresistible groove pushed by the Memphis Horns and some metaphorically inspired lyrics, while "I Wonder" and "Guess I Showed Her" sizzle with sensuality. --Bill Dahl

Recorded: August 2014 in Pernes les Fontaines (France) at studios "La Buissonne

"...if you haven't picked up every one of the Blue Note and Nat King Cole reissues from Chad Kassem and company at Acoustic Sounds, you're really missing out!" - David W. Robinson, Positive Feedback, Issue 52

"...an album that still resonates more than fifty years after its debut. Each of these musicians would develop as dominant musicians, but this cooperative effort stands on its own. The SACD gives the music cleaner, less muddled acoustics, with a penchant for detailed instrument separation." - Robbie Gerson, Audiophile Audition

Paul Chambers' first album features an amazing lineup of John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Horace Silver and Philly Joe Jones. A classic Blue Note session of what might be considered "cerebral" jazz.

Recorded in Studio Eleven (Hilversum) with a live audience on November 25, 2012.

Born in California, Paul Berner spent his youth in a small town on the Great Plains. There he started playing guitar at age 13 and was soon playing in a local rock band. The double bass followed a couple years later, coinciding with his developing interest in jazz. At 18, after 3 years, but only a few lessons, on bass, he passed the audition for entrance to the University of Iowa School of Music. Intent on developing his technique and his musical horizons, he chose to study classical bass playing, though he always was involved with jazz music outside of school. After receiving his Bachelor’s De gree in Music Performance, Paul moved to Bloomington, Indiana for post-graduate studies at the Indiana University School of Music, also in classical bass. Here he came in contact with musicians such as Peter Erskine, Kenny Aronoff, Todd Coolman, Jim Beard, and John Clayton.

In 1990 Paul made a “quality of life” decision and moved his base of operations to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. To paraphrase Bill Frisell, he wanted a house with a room where he could just sit and think! After arriving in the Netherlands he soon found his talents much in demand, and consequently he has worked with many well-known Dutch and Belgian artists such as Cees Slinger, Toots Thielemans, Dré Pallemaerts, Jesse van Ruller and Laura Fygi. In addition international artists such as Shirley Bassey, George Coleman, Michael Moore and Monty Alexander call upon his bass playing.

This recording is specially made by Sound Liaison for and with lovers of high-end audio recordings Special for those who own high-end audio equipment will have maximum benefit. What made this record different is that the file is a one to one copy of the master file (96kHz/24bit) No quality degradation whatsoever. Enjoy!

Miles Davis - Milestones (1958/2007) High-Fidelity DSF Stereo DSD64/2.82MHz

Recorded February 4 and March 4, 1958 at Columbia 30th Street Studio, NYC

John Coltrane had come out of detox and benefited from a stay with Thelonious Monk. Miles, back from Paris where he had recorded the music for Louis Malle’s film Lift To The Scaffold, added Cannonball Adderley’s alto to his quintet. Trane’s cubist abstractions and Cannonball’s bluesy lyricism offered him the contrasts that he was looking for, while his rhythm section provided the intensity of a Formula 1 racing car and the comfort of a limousine for every tempo. He had complete confidence in his bassist Paul Chambers, to whom he left long, sometimes bowed, solos, and he and Philly Joe Jones seemed to have telepathic communication. Red Garland, however, was tiring of Miles’ demands to increase the piano’s entrances and exits. One day he got up in middle of a session on “Sid’s Ahead” and left the piano to the trumpeter. At the height of his instrumental art, Miles was searching for a way to free himself from the harmonic constraints imposed by the piano. This is the significance of the composition “Milestones,” in which a simple alternation of two harmonic colors replaced the tortuous progressions of bop. Miles had entered the world of modal jazz.

Following the success of performances and recordings of Weber’s Wind Concertos with SCO principals as soloists, the SCO Wind Soloists that feature on this album have since 2012 started to explore Harmoniemusik repertoire.
Inspired by the legacy of the great Mozartian conductors of the SCO including Sir Charles Mackerras, the Wind Soloists make a fine contribution to the SCO’s distinguished Mozart discography.
This new recording includes four of the five Tafelmusik sextets for pairs of clarinets, horns and bassoons, together with the Serenade in E flat major, the first of Mozart’s three great wind serenades.
The Serenade in E flat major has many unusual features. Its opening fanfare - a series of repeated chords on the tonic in E flat - immediately catches the ear.
The fact that Mozart avoids fatiguing the listener with a surfeit of the same sonorities, in music with a necessarily limited dynamic and instrumental range, bears eloquent testimony to his genius.
This recording captures the wealth of detail in Mozart’s Divertimenti; there is something in each of them for every music lover.
Comprising pairs of clarinet, bassoons and natural horns, the players are dedicated to performing each work in a stylish and informed way, from the masterpieces of Mozart, Beethoven and Weber to twentieth-century works and contemporary commissions.
The SCO Wind Soloists are: Maximiliano Martín clarinet, William Stafford clarinet, Peter Whelan bassoon, Alison Green bassoon, Alec Frank-Gemmill horn, Harry Johnstone horn.
The SCO Wind Soloists have appeared in chamber concerts throughout Scotland. They have also performed at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in the presence of HRH The Prince Charles.

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (1973/2012) High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 24bit/48kHz

Artist: Mike Oldfield
Title: Tubular Bells
Genre: Rock
Label: © Mercury Records
Release Date: 1973/2012
Quality: High-Fidelity FLAC Stereo 48kHz/24bit
Source: Bowers & Wilkins
Duration: 00:56:06
Recorded: The Manor, Oxfordshire, England, Autumn 1972 – Spring 1973

Mike Oldfield's groundbreaking album Tubular Bells is arguably the finest conglomeration of off-centered instruments concerted together to form a single, unique piece. A variety of instruments are combined to create an excitable multitude of rhythms, tones, pitches, and harmonies that all fuse neatly into each other, resulting in an astounding plethora of music. Oldfield plays all the instruments himself, including such oddities as the Farfisa organ, the Lowrey organ, and the flageolet. The familiar eerie opening, made famous by its use in The Exorcist, starts the album off slowly, as each instrument acoustically wriggles its way into the current noise that is heard, until there is a grand unison of eccentric sounds that wildly excites the ears. Throughout the album, the tempos range from soft to intense to utterly surprising, making for some excellent musical culminations. Mandolins and Spanish guitars are joined by grinding organs and keyboards, while oddball bells and cranking noises resound in the distance. In the middle of the album, guest Vivian Stanshall announces each instrument seconds before it is heard, ending with the ominous-sounding tubular bells, a truly powerful and dominating instrument. The most interesting and overwhelming aspect of this album is the fact that so many sounds are conjured up, yet none go unnoticed, allowing the listener a gradual submergence into each unique portion of the music. Tubular Bells is a divine excursion into the realm of new age music.
